Penn State’s third-leading WR out for rest of spring

When one of your football players is using a motorized cart as a means of transportation, it doesn’t exactly spell good news for an immediate return to the football field.

And, indeed, Penn State receiver Devon Smith‘s foot injury will cause the senior to miss the remainder of spring practices, coach Bill O’Brien confirmed Tuesday. Smith has a sprained left foot which he suffered last week.

It wasn’t made clear if Smith will return for fall camp, but given the nature of his injury, he should be good to go.

The Nittany Lions’ spring game is April 21.

Smith recorded 25 receptions for 402 yards and a pair of touchdowns last season. Last month, police seized drugs and drug paraphernalia from Smith’s apartment, which he shares with former PSU defensive end Jack Crawford. Neither were initially charged in the incident.
