The last thing any team needs at this time of the year is a significant injury incurred during one of its spring practices, sessions which are meant to merely serve.
Unfortunately, USF could find itself in that very situation.
According to Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times, veteran defensive tackle Cory Grissom (No. 46) suffered an injury to his right ankle during practice Monday morning. In a subsequent press release, the school confirmed that Grissom suffered a fibula fracture in his right ankle.
Surgery will be performed Thursday. No timetable for when he might return has been set as of yet.
Losing Grissom, who missed most of 2008 after suffering a season-ending ankle injury, for any length of time during the season would be a significant blow to USF’s defense as the senior lineman has started 25 straight games.
