Jessica Dorrell resigns from her position with Arkansas

Arkansas Petrino Crash Football AP

In a surprise to absolutely no one, Jessica Dorrell has resigned from her position in the Arkansas athletic department, the school announced today. The move comes just days after Dorrell was placed on administrative leave following her role in the Bobby Petrino scandal at UA.

Petrino was fired last week for misleading “the athletics department and university about the circumstance” related to the April 1 motorcycle accident involving him and Dorrell. Petrino lied about Dorrell’s presence at the accident to athletic director Jeff Long and gave Dorrell an “unfair and undisclosed” advantage when she applied for and received her job as the student-athlete development coordinator for football.

Not to mention $20,000 in cash for an Acura.

Dorrell has agreed that “she would not attempt to sell or profit from her affiliation with Razorback Athletics” as part of the resignation, although she is set to receive “approximately $14,000 as part of a settlement and resolution of all matters between the parties.”

In other words, Dorrell received $34,000 in a matter of weeks.

“While Ms. Dorrell had a legitimate right to apply for and accept a position within the football program, the circumstances surrounding the former coach’s decision to hire her compromised her ability to be effective in such a position,” Long said in the statement. “She and I believe she should have the opportunity to move on.”

A new car and cash. Yep. She deserves a chance to move on. Car and cash help i guess.

It really is sad that the University had to pay her anything. I can not imagine who would want to hire her now.

  3. 2ndaryinsanity says: Apr 17, 2012 9:27 PM

I hope she enjoys that $34000, because it may be awhile before she gets hired anywhere other than McDonalds. Personally, I think she’s done a HUGE disservice to all women who work in male-dominated fields.

“$34K in a matter of weeks”……seems escorting is mighty lucrative in these hard economic times.

Not exactly the language most commonly associated with a “resignation”. Sounds to me more like, “hey, honey, you’re done; you want it on your resume that you were fired, or do you want to do the politically correct thing and walk; your call; have a nice day.”

Why can’t AD’s or other people in those kinds of positions just tell the truth (what a freakin’ novelty, huh?) and say, “hey, she’s done. You all know why. Time to move on.”

Dorrell has agreed that “she would not attempt to sell or profit from her affiliation with Razorback Athletics” as part of the resignation…..

I bet that part can be legally challenged so that she can write a book, sell her story to a magazine, etc. Heck, given what idiots like Paris Hilton, Kim Kardashian, and a few other females have done, she can still exploit this for additional personal gain. Our society doesn’t seem to give a rat’s ass about morals anymore.

In the spirit of tax day – if I was an up and coming young IRS tax auditor that might have graduated from some rival SEC school, I would keep an eye on Ms. Dorrell’s 2012 tax return and look for the $20,000 gift as income.

Then the failure to report that could trigger a lifestyle audit. She would then say it was a gift and tax responsiblity falls on the donor.

Then you would go to Petrino and ask him where he reported the $20000 gift subject to $13k exclusion (of course, $26k if he is still married to Mrs. Petrino).

Then you would say, well, why did you give this woman a gift? You’re not related to her? You’ve only known her for a few months? So she serviced you? Made you feel good? So she provided you a service in exchange for the $20K?

Oh, okay, Ms. Dorrell, Now this is income and not a gift. Fraudulent tax return. Failure to report.
Pay Uncle Sam. Oh, by the way prostitution is illegal – bailiff take her away.

  18. billmead1976 says: Apr 18, 2012 2:09 AM

In the spirit of litigation, she should ride arky to the farm….as she is used to taking rides.

She was hired under good faith by Petrino to do a job. Then she was harrassed and forced to entertain his motorcycle rides, advances and overtures.

She could have gotten more than $14k. Wrongful termination, sexual harrassment, ohhh this university got off scott free.

When you’re an Arkansas student-athlete, you watch other Arkansas sports on cable. When you watch other Arkansas sports on cable, you latch on to a sleazy coach willing to cheat on his wife. When you latch on to a sleazy coach willing to cheat on his wife, you have an affair and the coach hires you. When you have an affair and the coach hires you, you go on a motorcycle ride after sex. When you go on a motorcycle ride after sex, you crash and lose your $55,000 job. Don’t crash and lose your $55,000 job. Get rid of cable. And upgrade to Direct TV.

Dorrell will find a way to profit even further from all this. I smell a Playboy pictorial in the not too distant future.

Is her engagement off? If not it speaks volumes about how pathetic her fiancee is.

  25. dryzzt23 says: Apr 18, 2012 9:10 AM

Dorrell is complicit in making Arkansas look really bad. She should have been fired.

But apparently the PC police have seen to it that she has a soft landing.

Yea… Right… Unless that is in writing, you darn well know a BABA WAWA interview or a book will be out by the end of the year.

  34. mikeminnc says: Apr 18, 2012 1:32 PM

Jessica, you’re a smelly pirate hooker.
    -Ron Burgundy.

Seriously, this looks like a pretty standard separation agreement, they paid her 3 months severance in exchange for waiving any rights to sue, non-disparagement, confidentiality, blah blah blah. This was actually a good deal for UA. She could have probably gotten 1 or 2 years arguing that she will have a hard time finding future employment due to the scandal and threatening a harassment claim…UA easily would have written a $100K check to make that go away, especially since they were able to fire Petrino with cause and save any serious severance there.

This helps UA immensely in being able to repost the position in the future if they want and avoid other lawsuits from applicants that did not get the opportunity to interview.

I don’t know if she intended to or not, but Jessica actually did a semi-honorable thing by not threatening to sue and going after more money, because she could have gotten it…..I am sure she just wants to get this over with and skip town quietly.

My big question still remains – how in the hell did he end up with a face like a pepperoni pizza and she walked away unscathed from this accident…..I still wonder if there is more to the story. If she caused them to wreck giving old Bobby a nice little reach around on the bike, seems unlikely she would have gotten away with no injuries….I wonder if the rumors are true about a confrontation with the boyfriend?

Unless he was in on it with her, see how much they could drain old Petrino for before they got caught.

It’s stories like this that make me wonder why people keep saying that prostitution is illegal.

While some of these comments are really funny, they prove my point that her choices hurt other women trying to work in male dominated jobs. I just hope people realize that she’s an exception. Most women want to do things the right way, and we would’t consider (even for a split second) using sex to gain employment or a promotion.

  43. 2ndaryinsanity says: Apr 19, 2012 4:52 PM

By the way, the censors are hard at work again and (as usual) are inconsistent. I made some “Rated PG” comments they took offense to, yet allowed all of your off-color jokes. Go figure.

I think this is the first case of “sports prostitution” I can put my finger on. First Bobby pays her and then AK pays her to go away. $34,000 ain’t bad for a few week work.
