Michigan transfer one of three players dismissed by CMU

Over the weekend Central Michigan announced that five players had been indefinitely suspended for violating unspecified team rules.

Four days later, three of those players have been permanently dismissed.

In a press release, CMU head coach Dan Enos has announced that sophomores Austin White and Joe Sawicki and freshman Danel Harris have been immediately released from the football program. As was the case with the previous suspensions, the school did not detail what led to the trio of dismissals.

“We hold our student-athletes to the highest standard of conduct as members of our team, our campus and our community,” said Enos. “Actions that do not represent CMU and the community with pride have no place on our campus and will not be tolerated.”

As noted in the release, none of the three players actually played in a game for the Chips. White sat out the 2011 season after transferring from Michigan, where he was a three-star member of the Wolverines’ 2010 recruiting class. Sawicki, a tight end, was on a medical scholarship while Harris was a non-scholarship wide receiver who walked on to the team in January.

White was expected to contribute to CMU’s offense to some degree this season, while neither Sawicki nor Harris participated in spring practice.

The two other players -- wide receiver Deon Butler, defensive back Kevin King -- will continue to be suspended indefinitely, the coach added.
