Georgia Tech LB facing suspension for opener

Thanks to an arrest that happened prior to the start of last season, Georgia Tech will likely be without a part-time starter at linebacker for at least the 2012 season opener on the road against Virginia Tech.

Daniel Drummond was arrested last July after failing sobriety tests and charged with boating under the influence. The redshirt junior-to-be pleaded guilty to the charge Wednesday and was sentenced to, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution wrote, 12 months’ probation, a $1,000 fine, 10 hours of community service and mandated attendance at DUI school.

Somewhat unbelievably, Yellow Jackets head coach Paul Johnson was first informed of the situation yesterday. Johnson said school policy dictates Drummond will be suspended for 10 percent of Tech’s 2012 schedule, meaning the player would almost certainly miss the opener against the Hokies, at bare minimum.

Drummond started six games last seasons, and was projected to be a starter heading into the upcoming season.
