Hokies have big recruiting day despite cancelled spring game

As we noted yesterday, inclement weather sidelined Virginia Tech’s annual spring game, and unfortunately for fans, there will not be a makeup day.

But that doesn’t mean Saturday was a total bust for the Hokies. According to the Washington Post, VT “received verbal commitments from at least six prospects — the most the Hokies have gotten on one day since 2005.” Included in that group is highly touted quarterback Bucky Hodges.

Hodges, a six-foot-five prospect, is a four-star recruit, according to Rivals.com.

Rivals.com shows that VT only picked up three commitments from yesterday, but five within the last few days. No matter the official number, Tech had a more-than-solid recruiting weekend when you consider the focal point was the spring game.

Beamer getting his kid to come back home and recruit for him seems to be paying off.
He learned the ropes in the SEC so thats a first class education on recruiting.
Always thought the hokies were a likeable team and they have the coaching but not the level of players the SEC gets…if that is changing, they could be dangerous.
Lot of ifs in recruiting of course. Good luck to them though…certainly more likeable fans than FSU, Clemson, and Miami.

Thanks urfinished. We’ve been asking for a long time that if we can win 10 games a year with under-the-radar VA kids, what can we do with highly touted national level recruits? We’re finally starting to see that on a more consistent basis and this program is finally seeing it’s recruiting catching up with it’s on-field performances. Regular season tilts with Alabama again in 2013, Ohio St and Wisconsin in the years immediately following that, will be a good measuring stick for us. Hopefully we’ll finally win a BCS game in that time over someone other than Cincinnati.
