Two more Jayhawks get the boot from Charlie Weis

Charlie Weis AP

An off-the-field incident over the weekend has added two more Jayhawks to the list of players who have been kicked off the team by new Kansas coach Charlie Weis.

According to, linebacker Collin Garrett and cornerback Chris Robinson were involved in an altercation at a local bar. Garrett allegedly got into a fight with an employee who asked the player to stop smoking inside. Garrett was then reportedly ejected from the bar, where he Robinson got into yet another altercation with bar staff members. After police were called, the two players left the scene, only to be found later.

They were later charged with battery and interference with duties of an officer. Today, Weis said in a statement that the two had dismissed from the team for violating team rules.

Garrett played in six games as a freshman last season while Robinson redshirted.

You could be in the sunshine ste grooming studs you fat tool. Freeze your ass off and win nothing instead you carpetbagger. Thanks for nothing

He groomed a lot of “studs” last year. The UF offense couldn’t score a point.

It’s still going to be Kansas football as usual with Weis there.

This guy couldnt recruit at Notre Dame and you think he’s going to convince recruits to come play ball at a basketball school in the middle of nowhere? Please. He couldnt get Florida’s offense to move at all either. Yes he is bringing in transfers but they’re all old ND players, who quiet honestly havent accomplished anything in their careers. The only thing smart he is doing is kicking Turner Gill’s old players to the curb. Although kicking too many players off the team could scare recruits away in the future.

The good news is, he couldnt run that program any further into the ground

Hope that cigarette was worth losing your scholarships over boys.

Plenty of smoke breaks now that you don’t have those pesky classes to get in the way.

Vince, you’re 100% correct. “Plenty of smoke breaks now.” Here’s a true story for you. The guy that cuts my grass, pares back the palm fronds on the coconut trees, etc. used to be a “Stand Out” at the University of Miami. A “STAND OUT” I tell you. His mouth (smart ass), lack of a work ethic (relegated to a bench warmer due to laziness) & his propensity to hang out at the bars in the evenings & skip class in the day hours FINALLY cost him his scholarship. It is a ashamed to see this guy toiling in the hot Florida sun with a cigarillo hanging from his mouth as he cuts grass & complains about his “fate” in life. The truly sad thing is, he doesn’t even own the lawn service business; he’s an employee. I guess the redeeming factor is… least he works for a living! The coach did him a great disservice when he told him during recruiting that he was a “Prince” of STAND-OUT’S…and forgot to tell the defensive line of other football teams. Karma is a Witch! Coaches need to practice tough love. Like Coach Weis or not, he did the right thing for a change in firing Garrett & Robinson! Again…..Go Get ’em Charlie.

    That pic is priceless.

He can recruit for sure, he just can’t coach. Couldn’t do it in Kansas City, was awful as Florida’s OC, I just don’ t understand how he keeps getting these gigs. The best job in the country is the OC for New England. It just keeps spitting out head coaching hires: McDaniels, Weis and now Bill O’Brien. These guys are not that good, Brady basically did their job for them, a la Manning w/Tom Moore. He will never live up to that contract in Lawrence.

C Weis imo is a big baby.He never proved much @ ND or even Florida.A worthless coach imo.Just look at that pick,i`ve seen prettier things with apples in their mouths on Thanksgiving..

Couldn’t recruit at ND? Ever hear of Floyd, Rudolph, Eifert, Clausen, Crist, Tate, Te’o, Slaughter, Harrison Smith, etc?????? He recruited all those guys and they are all in the NFL or soon to be in the NFL. Idiot haters on message boards , gotta love it.

Great recruiter; lousy college coach and all-around arrogant jerk to be specific. Weis’ relative success in the pros (including his stint with the Chiefs) and failure to get anything happening at Florida last season once again shows his absolute inability to coach up his players. His success at UND came by using Willingham and Davie’s recruits. Once those guys all cycled through, we saw what Charlie’s staff could do– and that was not bloody much. Raw talent makes you a high school standout; not growing that talent in college gets you the kind of W-L records that gets coaches fired. His inability to get any semblance of an effective offense at UF (stacked to the rafters with blue chip talent) sort of sealed any thoughts of this guy returning to the sidelines for me. When he has talented, well-coached players at his disposal in the pros, Weis’ X-and-O acumen is very good; as a head or positional coach tasked with developing his players, he’s a disaster. The problem now lies in the fact that KU will never get top-flight players, and jucos and refugees from other programs will only screw up team chemistry, and will only get you so far. Sorry Charlie.

Good luck to anyone who thinks they are going to win consistently at an SEC school against an SEC schedule when for the bulk of the year your qb’s are true freshmen. Not his fault Brantley got injured. He developed Golden Tate into being awarded the Biletnikoff award in 2009. He turned ND into TE U because of his ability as a great passing game coordinator. The previous guy said he couldn’t recruit and I proved he was wrong. Don’t change the subject! Weis has plenty of faults but the guy can coach offense with best of them. Just look at the KC Chiefs run game before he got there. One of the worst in the NFL. In one season he took them to the second best run offense in the league. You can slant it all you want your way just don’t ignore the full facts.

Weis can recruit and coach QB’s up in his system.

    Thats all.

Clay Matthews was on campus at ND same time Clausen was …. Clay said he barely got time with Weis as he was only with the offensive players.

He also has 0 defensive mind.

JimmY clausen last year was epic, ND was scoring 33 points a game and went 6-6.

    Defense disaturous under Weis.

Has Charlie had success anywhere besides NE? No. You can name all the “top” recruits he brought in but someone pointed it out already, Clausens offense averaged 33 a game and they still only went 6-6! And honestly, it wasnt 100% Charlie bringing in those recruits, it was the school. ND. Who wouldnt visit ND as a high school player? I sure would. And the education helped too. Kansas is a not prestigious program, so charlie will really have to work just to break even at KU
