Two former four-star ‘Noles granted releases by FSU

In 2010, Darious Cummings (pictured, No. 94) and Jeff Luc were two of the eight four-star members of Florida State’s top-ten recruiting class in February of that year.

A little over two years later, both players have decided a fresh football start is in order.

In a press release, FSU announced that Cummings, a defensive tackle, and Luc, a linebacker, have been granted their releases to transfer to other institutions. The identities of those institutions have yet to be determined.

“Both Jeff and Darious are great young men,” head coach Jimbo Fisher said in a brief statement. “We wish them the best in their future endeavors.”

Luc, the top-rated inside LB in the Class of 2010 according to Rivals.com, played in 19 games the past two seasons, including 11 in 2011. In addition to FSU, the Port St. Lucie, Fla., native took official visits to Georgia, Tennessee and USC prior to his signing with the ‘Noles.

A thumb injury cost Cummings all but two games of the 2011 season, and he missed spring practice after having an arthroscopic knee procedure. All told, the defensive lineman played in five games during his two years in Tallahassee.
