Following Oklahoma State’s spring game this past Saturday, head coach Mike Gundy heavily intimated that a decision on a starter at quarterback could come as early as Wednesday, after meeting with the offensive staff.
Wednesday, of course, has arrived, although that doesn’t necessarily mean a public decision is in the offing at some point before the sun sets on today.
In a preemptive move, OSU issued a statement Tuesday night related to the QB situation, stating in essence that a decision might come today. Or it might not. One of the two.
“We just want to give you a heads-up that it is not necessarily a given that Oklahoma State will have an update on its quarterbacks tomorrow,” the release read. “If we have something, we will certainly share it with you, but please don’t view it as an absolute that an announcement is coming tomorrow.”
In other words, don’t hold your breath.
Three players are vying to replace Brandon Weeden under center — junior Clint Chelf (pictured), redshirt freshman J.W. Walsh and true freshman Wes Lunt. The trio have been even throughout the spring, and, at least statistically, the spring game did nothing to separate one from the others.
