Report: sexual assault charge led to Baylor DL’s suspension

Late last week Baylor announced that defensive end Tevin Elliott had been suspended indefinitely for violating unspecified team rules.

A couple of days later, we now know that the defensive end is facing a serious legal issue that led to the punitive measure.

KWTX-TV in Waco is reporting that Elliott was arrested Monday on a warrant charging sexual assault. The only available detail is that the charge stemmed from an early-morning incident April 15 at an apartment in South Waco, in which it’s alleged Elliott sexually assaulted an unidentified female.

In announcing the suspension last Friday, head coach Art Briles said the football program would have no further comment on Elliott’s situation.

Last season as a redshirt sophomore, Elliott played in 12 games, starting five of the last eight regular season contests. Elliott finished 2011 second on the team in sacks with three and tied for second in tackles for loss with eight.

He missed Baylor’s Alamo Bowl win due to a knee injury, and the subsequent surgery forced him out of the recently-completed spring sessions.
