Exiting spring practice as one of Nevada’s top backup cornerbacks thanks to his performance on the field, Malik James has now exited the football program entirely thanks to an off-field issue.
According to KRNV-TV in Reno, James was arrested early Sunday morning and charged with driving under the influence and careless driving. Later that day, head coach Chris Ault announced that the senior had been dismissed for violating unspecified team rules.
No details of what led to the police stop that preceded James’ arrest have been released.
This was James’ second brush with the law in less than 18 months. Last November, James was charged with failure to obey police orders.
James, who sat out the 2010 season after transferring from Cincinnati, played in six games last season.
