APA three-star wide receiver who signed with Tulsa in 2009, Ricky Johnson has decided to finish his collegiate career elsewhere — and closer to home, for that matter.
Making an announcement on, where else, Twitter, Johnson said he would be moving on to Louisiana Lafayette for his final year.
“I’m taking my talents to the RAGIN CAJUNS for my senior season” Johnson said.
Johnson, a Lafayette native, was sixth on the team last season with 14 receptions for 197 yards and four touchdowns. For his career at Tulsa, Johnson had 44 receptions for 659 yards and seven TDs. Perhaps one of his biggest plays for the Golden Hurricane came in 2010 against Notre Dame when he hauled in a 31-yard reception, converting a third-and-26 during the game-winning drive.
NCAA transfer rules would normally require Johnson to sit out a season for heading to another Division 1-A school. However, if Johnson completes his undergraduate degree, or receives a special waiver, he will be allowed to play immediately for ULL. Johnson didn’t specify what his case would be.
