In January of this year, four-star wide receiver Justin McCay decided to transfer from Oklahoma to Big 12 rival Kansas.
A handful of months later, another touted player at the same position has decided to leave the Sooners for another (soon-to-be-former) Big 12 rival as well.
On his Twitter account Sunday night, receiver Kameel Jackson announced that not only is he leaving the OU football program, but that he will also be moving on to SEC-bound Texas A&M to continue his collegiate football career.
As of this posting, OU has yet to confirm Jackson’s departure. Barring a successful appeal for a hardship waiver, Jackson will be forced to sit out the 2012 season in order to satisfy NCAA transfer rules.
Beginning in 2013, Jackson would have three years to use his remaining three years of eligibility.
As a true freshman in 2011, Jackson started two of the 11 games in which he played and accounted for 12 receptions for 165 yards. A four-star member of OU’s 2011 recruiting class, Jackson was the No. 34 WR in the country coming out of high school in Arlington, Tex.
Jackson would also become the second highly-touted member of OU’s 2011 recruiting class to transfer to College Station; in December of last year, former five-star running back Brandon Williams decided to transfer to the Aggies and will also have to sit out the 2012 season.
UPDATED 8:54 a.m. ET: As Lee Corso is wont to say, not so fast my friend. While Jackson is indeed set on transferring from Oklahoma, it’s far from a certainty that he will land at A&M, SoonerScoop.com writes.But last night a source tells us Jackson hasn’t asked for permission from Texas A&M to transfer to College Station.
That source tells us A&M, and even head coach Kevin Sumlin, was unaware Jackson was interested in transferring to A&M as of last night.
That same source also said A&M would not be interested in bringing in Jackson as a transfer because of their current situation at the wide receiver position.
