UPDATED 5/9 @ 5:30 p.m. ET: The father of Thomas O’Reilly told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that a transfer to Georgia Tech is “not a done deal at this point.”
“We’ve talked,” Shaun O’Reilly said. “We know the school very well from when he was recruited as a [high-school prospect]. It’s a great school and it has a ton to offer.”

A three-star athlete from Auburn’s 2010 recruiting class, offensive lineman Thomas O’Reilly will apparently finish his collegiate career elsewhere.
AuburnUndercover first reported today that O’Reilly plans to transfer to Georgia Tech (subscription required). Joel Erickson of the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer was able to confirm that Auburn had granted O’Reilly his release.
O’Reilly came to Auburn reportedly with a pre-existing injury and sat out all of 2011. It didn’t appear as though O’Reilly was cracking the two-deep this spring, either.
The lineman is a Marietta, Ga., native, which is just north of Atlanta.
If the report of O’Reilly’s transfer comes to fruition, he will have to sit out a year per NCAA transfer rules. Or, he could receive a special waiver to play immediately.
