One season in Missoula was apparently all Montana (the player) needed to know it wasn’t going to work out with Montana (the school).
Following his departure from Notre Dame, Nate Montana has decided he will take his playing career to one more destination, effectively ending all Montana/Montana puns in the process.
Grizzlies coach Mick Delaney confirmed to The Missoulian Tuesday that the son of Joe Montana will be transferring to West Virginia Wesleyan, a Division II program, in the pursuit of more playing time.
“He asked for a waiver as a fifth-year senior transfer, and he’s going to do that,” Delaney said. “I just wish him good luck with everything. He wants to be on the field and he’ll get that opportunity there.
“I’m sure he’ll enjoy the experience of getting to play.”
WV Wesleyan will be the quarterback’s fourth different stop, officially surpassing the previous NCAA record held by Tate Forcier*. Montana (the player) began his college career at Notre Dame as a walk-on before spending a season at Pasadena (Calif.) Community College. He then re-enrolled at Notre Dame before transferring to Montana (the school) last year.
