TCU reportedly loses another player

Back in February, four members of the TCU football team were booted following a drug sweep. Included in that attrition was three players who started at least eight games apiece in 2011 and, obviously, were projected as starters in 2012.

TCU confirmed Monday that starting running back Ed Wesley is no longer a member of the football program. A JUCO coach has also confirmed that Nykiren Wellington, who started three games last year and was projected as a potential starter this season, had transferred down a level as well.

Unfortunately for Gary Patterson‘s Horned Frogs, and ahead of its move to the Big 12, the number of lost potential starters has been upped to six. Reportedly.

According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, and citing “several sources”, linebacker Deryck Gildon (pictured, No. 36) is no longer on the team. Along with Wesley, Gildon had been rumored over the past couple of weeks to “have been moving on” from the Frogs.

The Star-Telegram stated that Gildon’s departure is related to academics.

In an email, the school told CFT that Gildon is still on the roster. However, his status for the 2012 season was not addressed.

As a true freshman in 2011, Gildon played in 13 games. He was listed as the starter at middle linebacker entering spring practice earlier this year.
