Washington’s top recruiter limited during spring for NCAA violation

Josh Lupoi

Washington became one of college football’s biggest recruiting winners this past offseason when the school convinced Cal defensive line coach Tosh Lupoi to join Steve Sarkisian‘s coaching staff in Seattle. Lupoi has been widely regarded as one of the premier recruiters in the West.

However, his role with Washington this spring was limited because of a minor NCAA violation, the school confirmed to CBSSports.

According to the school, the secondary violation occurred when Lupoi, widely considered one of the best recruiters in college football, publicized the visit of a prospective student-athlete who ultimately did not commit to UW by confirming information about the recruit to members of the Dawg Pack student section at a men’s basketball game.

No other details were given, but it’s unlikely Lupoi will face any additional punishment.

Lupoi joined UW earlier this year as the defensive line coach and defensive run game coordinator. Lupoi’s switch from Cal to Washington also resulted in the flipping of safety Shaq Thompson.
