Unfortunately, a health issue will be shaking up Southern Miss’ coaching staff for the immediate future.
Coach Ellis Johnson confirmed to the Hattiesburg American that offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Rickey Bustle would be reshuffled within the staff to running backs coach while associate head coach Steve Buckley took over Bustle’s old position.
Johnson would not specify Bustle’s health problem.
“We sat down and discussed the situation and moved the offensive coordinator duties over to Steve Buckley,” Johnson said. “After the two of them talked, they thought it would be best to make the switch.
“The issue will take up a lot of his time and he didn’t feel like he could handle all the extra duties that he handles right now.”
Bustle joined Johnson this past year after serving as QB’s coach for Tulane. He previously spent nine years as Louisiana -Lafayette’s head coach.
Obviously, whatever the issue is, we certainly hope it is resolved quickly so Bustle can get back to his normal routine.
