‘Tis the season… for transfers.
Although, technically, Michigan State defensive tackle Matt Ramondo hasn’t transferred anywhere yet; he’s only received his release from MSU. Still, he hopes to end up on scholarship at New Mexico State.
“I’m transferring,” Ramondo told the Las Cruces Sun-News. “I’m going to meet with Coach [DeWayne] Walker (Monday) and try to finalize things.”
Ramondo, a three-star member of the Spartans’ 2011 class (Rivals.com) and a Las Cruces native, redshirted last season and would have been battling for a spot on the two-deep this fall. A desire to be close to home ultimately swayed the defensive tackle to ask for his release. However, it’s not yet known if Ramondo will receive a scholarship or be able to play in 2012. In regards to the latter, Ramondo would need to receive a hardship waiver from the NCAA.
