APAs the Auburn community copes with the tragic shooting over the weekend that took the lives of former AU players Ed Christian and Ladarious Phillips as well as a third individual, there is a rather incredible development in the story.
In an interview with The Times and Democrat, AU offensive lineman Eric Mack (pictured) said he didn’t realize he was shot in the buttocks at first while attempting to help others at the scene of the incident.
“I just wanted to make sure everybody was safe,” Mack (pictured) said. “I wasn’t even worried about myself. When I first found out I got shot, I didn’t even really realize it. I was still walking around checking on my teammates making sure they were all right.”
“I just couldn’t believe it. It just seemed unreal,” Mack said of the shooting. “Even now, it still seems unreal. I couldn’t believe it.”
According to Auburn head coach Gene Chizik, Mack is expected to make a full recovery from his wounds. Two other individuals were wounded in the shooting, with one of them, John Robertson, “fighting for his life.”
Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the Auburn community at this time.
