With spring meetings over, the Big East has taken the next step in finding a new commissioner to lead the conference.
The conference has employed the services Russell Reynolds Associates, a search firm where Big East acting commissioner Joe Bailey was a previous partner, to aid in its search. The league hopes to have a new commissioner in place with a salary of at least $1 million by Sept. 1, just in time for the league’s exclusive renegotiations with ESPN for a new media rights deal.
Previous commissioner John Marinatto “resigned” *nudgenudge* back on May 7. Bailey has said he is not a candidate for Marinatto’s long-term replacement. Earlier today, the Big East filed suit against former “member” TCU for failure to pay $5 million in exit fees.
