APOne of four players kicked off the team last year for his involvement in a robbery, Auburn wide receiver Antonio Goodwin has learned the legal consequences of his actions.
A judge ruled today that Goodwin will face 15 years in prison after being convicted of first-degree robbery. The fates of the other three Tigers allegedly involved in the incident – Michael McNeil, Shaun Kitchens and Dakota Mosley – have yet to be determined and the next defendant isn’t expected to go on trial until later this year.
Former Auburn running back Michael Dyer testified during Goodwin’s trial, saying the group had used his gun to commit the crime.
Yet another clear example of why not to hang around the “homies”.
“Homies” get you to do stupid stuff that you will regret later
How many coaches were clawing to recruit this guy?
It isn’t the homies fault. They are adults who made a decision they felt they could get away with it. They didn’t now the rest of the public is safer with these lowlifes behind bars
What is really sad about this story is that this guy was given a chance to make something of himself and he threw it all away. Now he is just another statistic. Society didn’t fail this kid. This kid failed society. How old is he, maybe 20? Now he gets to spend the next 15 years of his life in prison and after he gets out, he will have a difficult time finding decent work.
Typical Gene Chizik run program…
They need to stop giving these hoods scholarships to begin with. You cannot tell me that the universities don’t know what they’re getting 90% of the time. Maybe it would give future kids that need the chance the incentive to stay out of trouble at an earlier age.
Blame it on the coach, thats whats wrong with society, remember he’s not the victim he’s the one just found guilty of committing a crime for HIS stupid choice no one else’s
Dyer should of never told anyone he had a gun,imo its as much his fault as Goodwin for not keeping it in a safe place.Lugheags and that includes Dyer.Wasn`t it Dyer that got popped for smoking weed and found it on him,he`s no better.Dyer should of got booted out of school also.Gene Chiz did the right thing to try and keep the team clean.
@drez146 & lobo7456
You are both quite correct. While the make-up of the individual is not the fault of the coach or his staff, it is the FAULT of the low-life parents! I know too many public school teachers who are blamed for improper student actions like murder, stealing, cheating, robbing, etc. It is the FAULT of the parent or parents! If these teachers point the finger back at the home environment or lack thereof, they are targeted as “racist”. That’s just not right! It’s the PARENT (‘s) AND THE KID!!!!

He’s right! Gene Chizek, his staff and AUBURN knew who and what they were targeting as “STUDENT/ATHLETE’s”! They knew it was a risk! They too are to blame when the recruit does a criminal act such as this moron did! Auburn has a lengthy history of accepting these delinquents. The Newton group comes to mind as well as Nick Fairly who was recently sited two different times: 1) for weed and 2) DWI or DUI.
I guess Auburn University feels any publicity is good publicity. Stupid is as stupid does.
its funny how ppl from a more upscale environment view people that is from a low income or “hood” as one of you guys eloquently put it, but unlike p
(continued) but just because a kid is from certain area does not classify what type of player he will become….that statement to me was invalid and it is close on the boarder of “Profiling” because not all guys in the hood are that way. you cant just say you shouldn’t recruit there because a few guys blew their chance. many NFL players come from environments of that nature and become success stories…We are all individuals and we choose to make our decisions, me and my brother had the same upbringing I went to college played college ball, and he quit high school and had multiple legal issues and he was a far better athlete than I…so at the end of the day it does not matter about the parents or environment yea that makes it easy on the child but it boils down to the kid..I know many people from the hood I grew up around the corner from 2 different hoods and most kids chose to refuse to be like there parents and live in the hood, live a life of poverty and on government money so before yall think that is bad jjust remember for everyone person who messes up , its 50 kids saying if I get my chance I definitely want blow it….
This just in, Auburn used an ineligible player to CHEAT and WIN a National Title. This is totally on the school. I mean no other school in the country recruits kids with a troubled past or that may get into trouble while they are at the school. I mean South Carolina has never had a kid in trouble. Stephen Garcia was a model citizen in school. Cam Newton is a fraud and that fake NC they won should have a asterisk next to it or be stripped away at the very least. I’m sure the 1957 NC is tainted as well. Go Gamecocker and the Cocks.
You are a complete loser!
@jrillah10
Stephen Garcia attended classes WITH OTHER NON-STUDENT/ATHLETE types, and GRADUATED! Scam Newton NEVER attended a class because he took them on-line with probably someone baby-sitting him! Chizek was NOT going to take a chance with his PRIZED recruit who was DISMISSED FROM U. of FLORIDA FOOTBALL TEAM AND SCHOOL! He cheated on tests and he stole from other REGULAR STUDENTS! And that is why Gene Chizek protected & prevented this low-life from attending classes with other kids. He did not want to risk any issues that would make him INELIGIBLE! Auburn OWNS a feaux NC and most of the country agrees. Back to your sandbox JR.
@thegamecocker
Do you have insider info that no one else has? How do you know Cam never attended the university for class? I know how you know. You’re a moron who just shoots his mouth off. Cam stole a laptop, relax dude. It’s not that serious. And you act like a student athlete never cheats on a test. South Carolina is so clean when it comes to allegations. You obviously have it for Auburn and Cam, from, once again, that butt whooping you took in the SEC championship game. And most of the country saw that, cry baby. The only thing that should have been ineligible for that game was the entire Gamecrock football team. For a low life, he sure spends a lot of time and money on cancer victims and under privileged kids. What a scumbag. Go back to your butter churn and get ready for another overrated team in Columbia.

I think you hit the nail right on the head.
@jrillah10 and 1990tiger
Nah you’re both wrong. I have it in for AUBURN because your school personifies all that is bad in big-time college football. The article of this column is but a small sampling of the type of “student/athlete” Auburn recruits under Chizek. Tom Tuberville was a much better coach and person than Chizek. Nick Fairly and Scam…perfect together. When it comes to ‘Bama and Auburn, you guys are a distant second both academically and athletically. Time to milk the cows boys. And don’t even think of comparing Auburn to South Carolina academically. YOU LOSE there too. Tend to those cows now!

@thegamecocker
The more I read from you the more I’m proud to be a Tiger. You obviously just shoot your mouth off for attention. Congrats, you got some.

Being a SuCk fan, you have no idea what big-time college football is.
@1990tiger
I think it is very clear your school, Auburn, is a example of what “big-time college football should not be: accepting “STUDENT/ATHLETES” (term used loosely) that have been DISMISSED from a school in the same conference for cheating and stealing! Auburn recruits kids that have been convicted for felonies (see above article). I’m done responding to your idiotic, non-sense. Auburn’s NC was obtained nefariously in the opinion of over 98% of college football fans. The remaining 2% are Auburn supporters. Did you milk those cows yet? You and Jrillah10 need to clean the pig den next.

Get your facts straight, idiot. Name an Auburn student athlete that was dismissed from another SEC school for cheating and stealing.

Again, you play the part of an idiot very well. Auburn didn’t recruit a kid who had been convicted of a felony. Read the article real slowly and try to follow the timeline. The article is about an individual who was convicted of a felony after more than a year after he was dismissed from the football team.

Have you talked to 98% of all college football fans?
Had a shot at the NFL and you end up doing 15 years for some bull. Oh well.
