Beavers land an island transfer

This offseason, if you’ve seen “Oregon State” or “Beavers” in a headline, it’s likely been due to either an off-field legal issue or, well, an off-field legal issue.

For once, though, there’s some kinda, sorta positive news coming out of Corvallis.

Yippie?

Regardless, and by way of the Corvallis Gazette-Times, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser is reporting that defensive back Steven Christian has decided to transfer from Hawaii to Oregon State. As Christian graduated last month, he will be eligible to play immediately for the Beavers in 2012.

Getting Christian on the field this year could be a chore for Mike Riley & Company, however. After redshirting as a true freshman in 2008, Christian missed all of the 2009 and 2011 seasons due to injury. When healthy in 2010, he played in three games.

Because of the time missed as a result of a labrum issue, Christian is expected to pursue -- and receive -- a medical hardship waiver that would leave him with two years of eligibility beginning this season.
