For the second straight day, the jury for the Jerry Sandusky trial deliberated over evidence and was even re-read the testimonies from former Penn State assistant coach Mike McQueary and family friend, Dr. Jonathan Dranov. The deliberation process could go through the weekend.
There’s plenty to consider. Sandusky is facing 48 counts related to child-sex abuse (four counts were eventually dismissed), but it’s always worth noting that the former Penn State defensive coordinator is technically innocent until proven guilty and entitled to the due process of the law.
That said, let’s be real honest with each other: I would be stunned if Sandusky was acquitted of all charges, and you would be stunned if Sandusky was acquitted of all charges.
So, too, would Sandusky’s lawyer, Joe Amendola.
In an interview with reporters on Friday, Amendola said it would be “a shock”, adding that he would “probably die of a heart attack”, if his client was able to walk away from the trial completely freed of all charges against him. Amendola, apparently willing to speak on the record despite a judge-issued gag order, also dropped the following nuggets, courtesy of Statecollege.com:“Do you know what the odds are of walking on 52 charges? The likelihood is strong he will be convicted of something.”
“Jerry is an overgrown child. Kids tend to be naive and not really appreciate the seriousness of what they are facing.”Well then. Not to make light of a dreadful story, but at least we know Amendola’s lawyer rhetoric is good for something.
