A desire to be closer to his family resulted in former USC wide receiver Kyle Prater transferring to Northwestern. Though cleared for spring, his 2012 eligibility remained to be seen and rides on the approval/denial of a waiver sent to the NCAA.
Prater should know the Association’s answer in the coming weeks. Per the Chicago Tribune, Northwestern has filed the necessary paperwork to the NCAA asking that Prater be allowed to play this season. Whether or not he’ll be allowed? That’s undetermined, although another USC transfer, Amir Carlisle, to was given permission to play immediately at Notre Dame for very similar — the exact same, actually — reasons.
Prater’s impact at USC was minimal. After redshirting as a freshman in 2010, he caught just one pass for six yards last season.
