UPDATED 8:22 p.m. ET: Well, so much for that.
A couple of hours after we noted a report which quoted the mother of former Georgia running back Isaiah Crowell as stating that her son had not made up his mind on a new collegiate home, her son has indeed made up his mind. And, as originally reported, it’s FCS school Alabama State.
“We actively researched Isaiah both as a person as well as an athlete,” ASU head coach Reggie Barlow said in a statement. “We are aware of his current issues, but also believe in helping young people. We believe that Isaiah has learned from his circumstances and that he will be a quality student-athlete at Alabama State.”
Crowell will be eligible to play for the Hornets in 2012.

Back the truck up on reports of Isaiah Crowell‘s next collegiate destination.
Wednesday, UGAsports.com reported that the former Georgia running back was headed to Alabama State and was enrolling at the FCS-level school that day. A school athletic official refused to confirm or deny the report, although someone close to the player has come out and done just that a day later.
According to Crowell’s mother, reports that her son is headed to Alabama State are, at least at this time, false.
“He has not made up his mind,” Debbie Crowell told DawgNation.com.
There was no word from Crowell’s mother on what other schools her son may be considering or when a decision will be made. If he plays at Alabama State or any other FCS program, he would be eligible to play immediately.
Crowell was arrested very early last Friday morning and charged with carrying a weapon in a school zone, having an altered ID mark and charge of possessing/carrying a concealed weapon. The first two charges are felonies, the latter a misdemeanor. School policy called for an immediate suspension, although head coach Mark Richt trumped that directive several hours later by dismissing the back.
