What would a summer holiday weekend be without some type of post relating to an off-field legal issue, right?
The latest in what’s become an annual rite of offseason passage comes courtesy of Northern Illinois, which confirmed to the DeKalb Daily Chronicle that defensive lineman Frank Boenzi has been dismissed from the football program. The dismissal is a result of weed charges stemming from a mid-June arrest.
According to the paper, Boenzi was charged June 11 with “possessing 10-30 grams of cannabis and attempting to manufacture or deliver 10-30 grams of cannabis.” In a boilerplate statement for these types of situations, NIU head coach Dave Doeren said...
“There are certain expectations and standards of conduct that we set for student-athletes in our program, and unfortunately, Frank did not meet those expectations. We wish him the very best in the future.”
As a redshirt freshman in 2011, Boenzi played in 13 games.
