Normally this topic wouldn’t even be remotely worthy of a post. Thanks to events of late — and additional rumors that have been spawned — it is.
Earlier this week it was reported that four-star Florida recruit Dante Phillips was denied admission to Florida due to some type of admissions issue related to academics. As speculation swirled that something similar could befall a more-hyped defensive line signee, that’s all but officially been put to rest.
On his Twitter account Thursday night, Jonathan Bullard posted that (translation ahead) he had a very positive conversation with head coach Will Muschamp and that he’s cleared the admissions hurdle. In its report, however, the Gainesville Sun‘s response was decidedly tepid, writing that “Bullard is close to being cleared academically to enroll.”
The Sun goes on to note that, while the defensive end’s transcripts were cleared by UF a week ago, the athletic department is “still was waiting on word from the NCAA clearinghouse before he could enroll.”
When a decision from the clearinghouse is expected is unknown.
Bullard was rated as the No. 1 strongside defensive end and the No. 6 player at any position in the Class of 2012 by Rivals.com. Suffice to say, he will be expected to have an immediate impact on Muschamp’s defense.
