Just like that, Storm Klein has seen his career at Ohio State come to an abrupt and unceremonious end -- at least for the time being.
Less than a day after the Buckeyes linebacker was charged in connection to a domestic violence incident, the school announced Saturday evening that the player “has been dismissed from the Ohio State football team by head coach Urban Meyer.” The dismissal, the release stated, was a result “of actions that led to his arrest Friday on charges of domestic violence and assault.”
In a statement, however, the first-year coach did leave the door for a return slightly ajar.
“The charges filed against Storm Klein violate the core values of the Ohio State Football Program,” Meyer said. “As a result, Storm has been removed from the team. It has been made very clear that this type of charge will result in dismissal. If there are any changes in the charges, we will re-evaluate his status.”
Klein, a three-year letterman who would’ve been entering his senior season at the school, played in 38 games and started 10 times at middle linebacker last year. As the release noted, he was limited in practice this spring because of some minor injuries, and subsequently came out of those drills listed as a back-up at middle linebacker.
