Critically injured Duke WR remains in a coma

Blair Holliday

Four days after suffering significant head injuries in a jet ski accident, the medical news on Duke’s Blair Holliday remains grim.

A Duke athletic department official confirmed to the Raleigh News & Observer that, as had been previously rumored, the wide receiver is in a coma and remains in the intensive care unit at the UNC Trauma Center.  The official told the paper that “he wasn’t aware of any plans for surgery.”

Holliday was critically injured when a jet ski he was piloting collided with one being driven by a teammate.  That teammate has subsequently been identified as fellow receiver Jamison Crowder.

Citing a North Carolina Wildlife Resource Commission official, the News & Observer writes that “[t]he collision was unintentional but remains under investigation.”

To even intimate that the collision was anything but accidental really disparages the involved parties, and that’s just wrong. Accept it for was it is… a horrible accident that may end up costing a young man his life. I’m sure no one feels worse than Jamison Crowder right about now. Can’t even imagine having to live with something like this. Continued prayers for Blair Holliday!
