APWisely, Penn State is renovating the showers and locker room of the Lasch building on Penn State’s campus — the site where former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky sexually abused multiple victims.
University spokesman David La Torre announced the move Friday, but plans to renovate the building have been in development since last Novemeber when Sandusky was arrested. However, the renovations can’t actually begin moving forward with the project until all legal proceedings in the case are over.
Sandusky filed a notice yesterday appealing his conviction on 45 counts of child-sex abuse, the same day as the release of the Freeh report investigating Penn State’s actions in the Sandusky scandal. The report was most critical of former coach Joe Paterno, as well as athletic director Tim Curley, as well as former VP Gary Schultz and former president Graham Spanier. Curley and Schultz are facing perjury charges, and Spanier is set to appear in a Centre County court next month for a hearing in his lawsuit against PSU.
Additionally, legal experts told the Associated Press that if Paterno were alive today, he too could be facing criminal charges.
The decision to renovate the Lasch building and essentially wipe clean the horrific events that took place there was a necessity, and one of many moves Penn State needs to take to move on from the worst sports-related scandal in, well, ever.
