Butch Davis says he wants to coach again

Though never specifically targeted by the NCAA in the academic fraud/impermissible benefits scandal of 2010, former North Carolina coach Butch Davis has been out of work for nearly a year.

Davis doesn’t want it to stay that way.

In an interview with The Associated Press, Davis, who is currently a special assistant for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, said he’d like to get back into coaching in the near future. He also hopes the allegations at UNC won’t ruin any second chances he may get.

“I would love to think that the things we’ve accomplished over 37 years, that this one particular deal will not define me as a man nor as a coach,” Davis told the AP.

UNC Chancellor Holden Thorp said he didn’t believe Davis knew of the violations when he fired the coach.
