APAnyone anxious to get rid of SEC commissioner Mike Slive? If so, you’ll have to wait at least “a couple of more years”, per Slive himself.
The commissioner, 71, told the Associated Press he still has some unfinished business to attend to, most importantly the league’s new TV network deal. He is also continuing to work with his on the details of a four-team playoff, which as noted early, are already shaping up to be interesting if multiple broadcast networks get their hands on the inventory.
“I have agreed with the league that I will stay at least a couple of more years, and then we’ll sit down and decide what happens after that,” said Slive. “Don’t forget it takes two. It’s not just me making a unilateral decision. Both of us need to make that decision.”
Slive’s contract was set to expire at the end of this month.
And last but not least, Slive wants to be around when the SEC goes to 16. That will take a little more time.
… because 14 is poor legacy.
Some people do not reach their peaks until late 60″s or early to mid 70″s. Silve appears to be that kind of person. Great commissioner. Keep going.
When he received the telephone call from the A&M president pleading for admission to the SEC, Slive was relaxing on his porch, enjoying the great southern weather in Alabama, with some Evan Williams’ 23 year old Kentucky bourbon and a big band Arturo Fuente.
I think a few SEC presidents may well send him his favorite fire water and smoke to keep him around until the 16 team Super Conference is formed.
If I was getting under-the-table money from Saban to get Bama in the BCS ChUmpionship Game despite not even being in the Conference ChUmpionship Game, Id want to stay too…..at least until the playoff system starts so I could CYA myself.
