Plane banner over Penn State: ‘Take the statue down or we will’

Beth Jenkins AP

Attention, Penn State’s Board of Trustees: look up in the sky. There’s a message for you.

The university’s board still stands undecided on what to do with the statue of former coach Joe Paterno outside Beaver Stadium despite ongoing public outcry to bring it down in the wake of the Freeh report.

Now, there’s yet another obvious push in favor of what many already support.

A small plane displaying the banner “Take the statue down or we will” has been flying over Penn State Tuesday morning. Below is a picture of the banner.

The plane belongs to Drake Aerial Enterprises, a commercial banner towing company in Ohio, according to Statecollege.com.

Penn State people aren’t sure what statue the banner is referring to as they stick their heads back into the sand.

It needs to come down now! Some nut is going to take a chance at bringing it down and just another black eye to try and prevent. PSU does not need additional publicity over a statue that the public is coming to revile!

take the statue of the pedophilia enabler down NOW

  4. rmfields says: Jul 17, 2012 1:52 PM

Joe might as well have raped those kids himself. His old, wrinkly penis piercing their virgin butt-holes.

Some sanity appears in the sky!

  6. touchdowncolston says: Jul 17, 2012 2:07 PM

Why take it down? Just turn in and let it look the other way.

  7. dhlions says: Jul 17, 2012 2:13 PM

Yes, it is a complete “mystery.” Sort of like how anyone considers articles on this site to be well written.

    It has to come down!

Penn St has avenues availble to it to quell the growing riot for action. They can simply move the statue to a more secure location for it’s own good and then let it rot out of sight of everyone.

If they’re worried about what the student body segment that still supports this horrible man they can always claim they’ll re-visit the issue of where it can go at some point in the future.

And then let it rot out of sight of everyone.

The BOT doesn’t want to remove it because they don’t want people to realize removing things associated with this scandal is necessary to heal and move on. Like all of the BOT, for instance.

  10. Miss Alice says: Jul 17, 2012 2:47 PM

You guys! You chopped off the REST of the banner! I shot this outside my apartment window today.

  11. 35longmiles says: Jul 17, 2012 2:47 PM

It will eventually come down. It will be reminiscent of the tumbling down of te Hussein statue in Iraq. Great fanfare, sadly.

  12. dhlions says: Jul 17, 2012 3:12 PM

    @35longmiles

Totally bro. Did you get your BA in analogies from FOX news, or did you just minor in hyperbolic bullshit?

This isn’t binary. Don’t liken Joe Paterno to a ruthless dictator just because its the only thing your pea-sized brain is able to come up with.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. The BOT is presented with a damning report of the “Penn State Way,” and yet blindly continues down its path.

This is not good. If PSU takes it down now it will appear as though they were yielding to the threat. If they reason that they do not want to encourage agressive behavior by leaving it up, they appear to be totally callous and out of touch.

It’s a no-win scenario that even Kirk would not be able to defeat.

Stop with the penn state way BS.

  18. j0esixpack says: Jul 17, 2012 4:03 PM

I support the idea someone proposed of keeping it up – but turning it around so Paterno is “looking the other way.”

  19. davidjcu says: Jul 17, 2012 6:13 PM

For Penn State, they should completely disassociate themselves with JoePa in order to begin the process of repairing their image and hoping for the best from the NCAA

  20. namriverrat69 says: Jul 17, 2012 6:29 PM

Just tar and feather the SOB statue every six months as a reminder of the true measure of the man and a reminder of how ego can cloud common decency.

  21. brianbosworthisstonecold says: Jul 17, 2012 6:30 PM

Why call joe Paterno, “JoePa”, anymore? The pa refers to him as some grandfatherly type. Now JoePed sounds about right.

  22. namriverrat69 says: Jul 17, 2012 6:31 PM

In the end though the cost of all this will be the death penalty. You can still tar and feather the statue as a reminder of why you got the death penalty.

  23. ghengy says: Jul 17, 2012 6:35 PM

This is all so very entertaining. LOL

  24. j0esixpack says: Jul 17, 2012 6:52 PM

If you enlarge the banner it actually says “Surrender Dorothy”

Not sure what that’s in reference to… weird.

  25. latchbeam says: Jul 17, 2012 7:29 PM

    DEATH PENALTY!!

  26. kozbee says: Jul 17, 2012 8:16 PM

If you notice Joe in the pic pointing stright up,he`s not saying #1 he`s pointing @ the plane..Even Joe wants the statue down bot..

Indi0228 = likes to lump everyone in a category because of a few people actions

  29. gmsingh says: Jul 18, 2012 7:15 AM

If they are going to keep the statue up can’t they at least have it commemorated by NAMBLA or something?

  30. astep1534 says: Jul 18, 2012 9:28 AM

I would have that statue taken down like Saddam Hussein and replaced with something that will ensure crimes like those committed at PSU will never be forgotten or erased…JoPA and those who were in the inner circle surely did so much for the university…Shamed forever and caught! Their pain will never come close to the pain the survivors will have to endure for the rest of their lives…think about the those that were truly hurt and not some sick icon of a system that allowed these crimes to occur on their campus…The death penalty is not good enough for what these people and this university has done…and guess what…this is just the tip of the ice berg as money and greed have led to path of destruction of this once gereat nation.

  31. blastfurnaceknows says: Jul 18, 2012 12:34 PM

The reports today are that PSU students slept underneath the statue last night to “protect it” from possible damage. Seriously? Do these kids not have classes, internet service or newspapers up there? Oh well, at least they’re not rioting . . . I guess that is something. [Sigh.]
