APAttention, Penn State’s Board of Trustees: look up in the sky. There’s a message for you.
The university’s board still stands undecided on what to do with the statue of former coach Joe Paterno outside Beaver Stadium despite ongoing public outcry to bring it down in the wake of the Freeh report.
Now, there’s yet another obvious push in favor of what many already support.
A small plane displaying the banner “Take the statue down or we will” has been flying over Penn State Tuesday morning. Below is a picture of the banner.
The plane belongs to Drake Aerial Enterprises, a commercial banner towing company in Ohio, according to Statecollege.com.

Penn State people aren’t sure what statue the banner is referring to as they stick their heads back into the sand.
It needs to come down now! Some nut is going to take a chance at bringing it down and just another black eye to try and prevent. PSU does not need additional publicity over a statue that the public is coming to revile!

Penn St has avenues availble to it to quell the growing riot for action. They can simply move the statue to a more secure location for it’s own good and then let it rot out of sight of everyone.
If they’re worried about what the student body segment that still supports this horrible man they can always claim they’ll re-visit the issue of where it can go at some point in the future.
And then let it rot out of sight of everyone.
The BOT doesn’t want to remove it because they don’t want people to realize removing things associated with this scandal is necessary to heal and move on. Like all of the BOT, for instance.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. The BOT is presented with a damning report of the “Penn State Way,” and yet blindly continues down its path.
This is not good. If PSU takes it down now it will appear as though they were yielding to the threat. If they reason that they do not want to encourage agressive behavior by leaving it up, they appear to be totally callous and out of touch.
It’s a no-win scenario that even Kirk would not be able to defeat.

I support the idea someone proposed of keeping it up – but turning it around so Paterno is “looking the other way.”
For Penn State, they should completely disassociate themselves with JoePa in order to begin the process of repairing their image and hoping for the best from the NCAA

I would have that statue taken down like Saddam Hussein and replaced with something that will ensure crimes like those committed at PSU will never be forgotten or erased…JoPA and those who were in the inner circle surely did so much for the university…Shamed forever and caught! Their pain will never come close to the pain the survivors will have to endure for the rest of their lives…think about the those that were truly hurt and not some sick icon of a system that allowed these crimes to occur on their campus…The death penalty is not good enough for what these people and this university has done…and guess what…this is just the tip of the ice berg as money and greed have led to path of destruction of this once gereat nation.
The reports today are that PSU students slept underneath the statue last night to “protect it” from possible damage. Seriously? Do these kids not have classes, internet service or newspapers up there? Oh well, at least they’re not rioting . . . I guess that is something. [Sigh.]
