Purdue’s offseason of off-field woes continued over the weekend, with the Associated Press reporting that cornerback Sean Collins was arrested and hit with a handful of charges following an incident very early Saturday morning.
Per the AP, Collins was charged with public intoxication, resisting arrest and battery after the arrest outside of a West Lafayette drinking establishment. Citing a Lafayette police official, the AP wrote that “Collins is accused of hitting a 22-year-old woman” during the incident that led to his arrest.
The alleged victim was treated and released from a local hospital.
A school spokesperson confirmed that, as a result of the arrest and subsequent charges, Collins has been indefinitely suspended by the football program.
After initially joining the Boilermakers as a walk-on in 2009, Collins did not play in 2010 but earned a letter in 2011.
Updated 7/17 @5:17 p.m.: It didn’t take too long for Collins to see a more permanent form of discipline from head coach Danny Hope, who announced Tuesday that the corner has been dismissed for his arrest over the weekend.
Hope added that the school would re-evaluate the situation if the charges change. Collins, a junior, is facing public intoxication, resisting arrest and battery charges.
