Ray-Ray Armstrong given the Golden boot from Miami

Duke v Miami Getty Images

Rumors churning their way through the rumor mill over the past couple of weeks have officially come to fruition. Senior Miami safety Ray-Ray Armstrong is no longer part of the Miami football team, per a school release this morning.

“Armstrong can continue to be enrolled as a scholarship student at UM to complete his degree or the University will grant him a full release should he elect to transfer to another institution,” the release stated.

InsidetheU.com reported Armstrong was perhaps on his way out a few weeks back, though details were sketchy and it was never confirmed.

Armstrong has been in and out of Al Golden‘s doghouse for a while now. Last fall, he was one of several UM players ruled ineligible — specifically, Armstrong was suspended four games — for receiving benefits from former booster Nevin Shapiro. He was later suspended one game in November for a questionable tweet about dinner with a representative with a PR firm.

Heading into 2012, Armstrong was arguably the best player the Hurricanes had in their secondary. It’s a big loss, but Golden obviously had enough of, well, whatever it was with Armstrong.

In related news, Al Golden and the university of Miami have sent flowers and chocolates to the Paterno family and other officials at Penn State, thanking them, well for being themselves.

USC & Ohio State fans still surprised that there is a bigger two faced scumbag than Paul Dee in this world.

I’ll bet Al Golden is wishing he too the UCLA job when it was offered last year…. Rumor is Seantrel Henderson is on his way out also…

  3. jermz75 says: Jul 18, 2012 11:56 AM

Golden is doing a wonderful job trimming the fat.

ucla??? how do they compare to “The U” moron

  4. rolltide510 says: Jul 18, 2012 12:08 PM

UCLA is irrelevant, but I’m not sure The U is relevant for the right reasons.

  5. tailgater1 says: Jul 18, 2012 12:08 PM

Could you picture if Coker,Schiano,Davis or other clown were running the show? This guy would’ve been a hero or leader.Kudos to Golden, keep the broom workin in Thugtown.

  6. nightman13 says: Jul 18, 2012 12:14 PM

The U, thuggin’ and buggin’ since 1936. Everything about Miami sucks.

  7. nelsongarciajr says: Jul 18, 2012 12:15 PM

Golden needs to continue ridding the program of all the undesirables left over from the Shannon era.

mhalt99 and palmbeachbuckeye, you’re incredibly gigantic idiots!

  8. nelsongarciajr says: Jul 18, 2012 12:17 PM

nightman13 and tailgater1, you can tell they’ve never been to the 305, another pair of envious wannabe’s!!!

  9. BrownsTown says: Jul 18, 2012 12:20 PM

If this has been some time in the making, why didn’t he boot him weeks ago so he could declare for the NFL Supplemental Draft? Is this a way to screw the kid or is there more to this?

  10. canehouse says: Jul 18, 2012 12:28 PM

Armstrong never lived up to the hype… he made a few nice plays and a few decent hits… good riddance to a kid that has proven to be more of a problem than anything else. Time for Bush to step up! Gonna be another tough knocks type of season… but I like where Golden is taking the program… in lieu of the NCAA sanctions looming.

  11. palmbeachbuckeye says: Jul 18, 2012 12:33 PM

Jermz75: Golden WAS offered the UCLA at the end of last season and he DID consider it. Miami gave him a HUGE contract extension to stay. Save the use of the word Moron for the dimwits you obviously socialize with. http://articles.latimes.com/2011/dec/05/sports/la-sp-ucla-coach-golden-20111206

  12. finfan713 says: Jul 18, 2012 12:48 PM

Hey palmbeachbuckeye…..where in that article does it say Al Golden considered that job? It clearly states Al Golden said he wasn’t even interested in the job. I think the word moron is perfect for you in this situation. Maybe you should read the articles before you use them to try and make a point.

  13. bertenheim says: Jul 18, 2012 12:52 PM

By taking the President’s job at Miami, Donna Shalala was effectively announcing her permanent retirement from public office. She couldn’t be elected dog catcher with all the debris she has over-seen there.

  14. thegamecocker says: Jul 18, 2012 12:53 PM

Anyone named RayRay just has to be a gang-banger. Student-Athleet? NOTTTTT

  15. palmbeachbuckeye says: Jul 18, 2012 12:58 PM

Golden will be GONE next season…. he was lied to by the Administration when he took the job and nearly left because of it. It took a huge contract guarantee to keep him in Miami. Miami will be crippled after the NCAA hands down the sanctions. Miami has not won a conference championship in over 10 seasons… and have never been in the ACC title game. Miami will lose at Kansas State and at Notre Dame (Soldier Field) this season. Golden is riding it out to cash a huge check until a better job opens for him.

  16. bertenheim says: Jul 18, 2012 1:06 PM

Ray-Ray will go to an FCS program, and be a second-rounder in next year’s NFL draft.

  17. bertenheim says: Jul 18, 2012 1:13 PM

If you’re still in school, do you remember when Miami was relevant?

  18. mhalt99 says: Jul 18, 2012 1:15 PM

    nelsongarciajr says:

Idiot? For what? Yes Al Golden is a tremendous coach and I hope against hope he makes out well whether it be at Miami or elsewhere.

The problem is that Paul Dee, turned a blind eye to what was going on at Miami and then hypocritically pounded USC for institutional control. Paul Dee was much like the Penn State board/Paterno for allowing this to happen. He put athletics above all else and then wrote rules for other universities, while knowing what was happening at Miami. The PSU scandal is much worse as it involves children, however the way that Paul Dee came down on USC while knowing about infractions at Miami is inexcusable. Again, PSU deserves a 2-3 year death penalty, but from Paul Dee’s own definition of loss of institutional controls against USC and the punishment for free tattoos at Ohio State…..Miami deserves something much worse than USC/OSU but much less than the example that needs to be made of PSU.

Again, it is hard to compare anything to the PSU scandal, but Miami does have a significant scandal in its own right.

I will say this about the Miami/PSU scandal – Miami fans have handled themselves with class through numerous scandals. I have never once felt less about a Miami alum because of any activities on or off of the football field. Penn State fans on the other hand have handled themselves with such…..well you know….that I would never bring in an alum that had PSU listed on their resume unless they were recommended by a colleague.

Ray Lewis was involved with a murder that someone from his “possee” committed. At that time I thought he was embarrassment to The U. Not being from the “hood” I’m not sure how possee is spelled. Anyway, I think Ray somehow avoided being implicated in that. I think he has done a better job improving the folks he hangs out with.

  20. billobrienschindimple says: Jul 18, 2012 1:45 PM

    gamecocker

As usual you are spewing nonsense.

You don’t have to be from the hood to know how to spell posse. All you had to do was pass 5th grade. There were posse’s long before there were hoods.

South Carolina, the racism and dumbass capital since…not sure if I should say 1776 or the civil war.

” Anyone named RayRay just has to be a gang-banger. Student-Athleet? NOTTTTT”

Anyone named gamecocker just has to be a racist-bigot. YUPPPPP.

  22. bertenheim says: Jul 18, 2012 1:50 PM

    gamecocker,

Thank you for reinforcing the stereotype some of us have for y’all down there.

  23. thegamecocker says: Jul 18, 2012 1:51 PM

    @billobrienslacky

Thank you for your kind words. THE University of South Carolina has one of the highest percentages of Afro-American students of any state university. Obviously you are a jack-weed.

  24. kozbee says: Jul 18, 2012 2:48 PM

    @ billo

You guys can`t sling mud at South Carolina about racism. In fact go back to your history and find the U.Alabama was an all white college with Gov. George Wallace standing at the college doors of Alabama blocking the way for blacks to get a college education.I myself don`t care much for the gamecocks but he is about right with blacks at the university. And here`s some more history for ya`s,if it wasn`t for a black you would not have A/C in home to keep you people up in the north cool in the summertime.

  25. thegamecocker says: Jul 18, 2012 2:53 PM

You’re not sure if you should say it because you’re too dam lazy to look up which is the Revolutionary War and which is the Civil War. Stupid is as stupid says…and man are you STUPID!

  26. kozbee says: Jul 18, 2012 2:53 PM

And for Miami,i thought the school was a prison along with Florida st.

  27. dalucks says: Jul 18, 2012 3:43 PM

I will be more impressed when Al Golden wins some games at Miami. Kicking players off the team who do not kiss your butt is not impressive. Why screw a kid who is about to graduate and be drafted into the NFL. Is his ego really that big based upon a 7-6 record at Temple. He was brought in to win games. Let’s face it, his recruiting skills stink, he has been big talk and little results. Jimmie Johnson and Howard Schellenberger won with questionable character guys who still played football and graduate. I want Miami to be Miami, this is not Temple or Penn State Al.

  28. thegamecocker says: Jul 18, 2012 4:01 PM

    @dalucks

If your head was on the guillotine and the blade about to drop, would you be heading to THE U? Golden is doing a good job considering the situation he has to work with. Academically, THE U is a fine school and Coral Gables is a terrific area. But the athletes that go there have little character. They want to posit themselves as “Gang Bangers”, even with Donna Shalayla as President of the school. Now THAT’S a joke!

  29. billobrienschindimple says: Jul 18, 2012 4:54 PM

    gamecocker-

You are too dense to understand my reference to the South’s desire to maintain slaves.

As for the exact date of the start of the civil war, it is not that I was too lazy too look it up, rather I was on a smoke break and did not have the time/means/desire to do so. I was just annoyed by your nonsensical racist rants.

As for smarts, I would gladly accept your challenge any day.

To the guy who lectured me about Alabama, unlike most of our country I took my schooling seriously and educated myself. I am well aware if Gov. Wallace’s actions and intentions. In regards to thanking a black man who invented AC I ask what the hell that has to do with gamecocksuckers continual racist posts and rants about how great USC east is, when the simple fact is they have won fukall.

  30. smadison29 says: Jul 18, 2012 8:51 PM

A lot of you are living the past & don’t know what the hell you’re talking about. In the past five years Miami has had two players arrested. TWO (Robert Marve & Ramon Buchanan). Most top universities amass that total in one off-season alone. If there’s any criminal university in Florida look no further than Gainesville who have approximately 30 arrests in the past 5 years.

As for Golden, he’s not going anywhere. If he didn’t take the Penn St or UCLA job then he’s not going anywhere. The NCAA won’t come down on the U as hard as many think because a) the U cooperated b) all of the active players involved served NCAA suspensions & regained their eligibility c) all of the previous regime who took part are gone d) a self imposed bowl ban & another probable bowl ban. I’m sure we’ll lose some scholarships but I highly doubt it’s more than 10.

  31. thegamecocker says: Jul 18, 2012 9:58 PM

    @billo

So I’m a racist for wanting authentic STUDENT/Athletes instead of the “Rar-ray’s” and other gangbangers at major universities? And your on your “smoke break”? You make some money and that qualifies you as being self-educated? That is what you said. You smoke, but I’m dense? And I’m a racist because I live in the South? There are more racists up North because there are more people and that is the truth. For all I know you make your money selling drugs! I don’t know. But I know one thing: you’re a dumbass and have bad breath because you smoke. Go back to your hole and leave me alone.
You’re too ignorant to communicate with.

Ray-Ray (nice spelling baby mama) was the SINGLE ray of light in that atrocious secondary. I will so enjoy watching teams impose their will on UM over and over and over. Year after year it just keeps getting worse at UM. It’s the most impressive downward spiral in the modern era of college football. It will continue and this upcoming season will have the few fans hanging their toes over the cliff. The rusty ruthless NCAA scythe awaits just around the corner canefan. Jump. Karma sucks []_[] arrogant bastards.

But, no, he just wants everything handed to him. Thinks he’s above rules etc…The NCAA is full of morons like this…Student-athletes my ass……..

Utter rubbish. You only see what you want. At no point did I say I was self educated. I said I took my schooling seriously and educated myself, meaning I went to school and took it seriously.

A southerner calling someone ignorant. That’s like the pope accusing Joe Paterno of protecting a child molester.

Your comments are rude and uncalled for. And you are ignorant based on these comments. For the record, I did my undergraduate work at THE University of South Carolina and I presently live in NJ. But as YOU know, there are plenty of bigots in the North. You’re one of them.

Armstrong seems not to be worried as reports surface that he, Running back Isaiah Crowell of Georgia, and Defensive Lineman Julius Green of Kansas look to transfer to Division II Truman State (Missouri). Recent rumors have surfaced about Michael Dyer transferring to Division II Pitt State, who is coming off a National Championship season. The MIAA is one of Division II’s strongest conferences, so it is evident why these players would choose the conference if the rumors are indeed true.

Ray Ray is his nickname. His real name is Aravious & he was horrible in the secondary. He constantly took bad angles & couldn’t cover anyone which is why he didn’t start when he returned from suspension last year. He should’ve been playing OLB but he didn’t want to & didn’t want to gain the weight. An obvious me first player.
