Just a handful of days before the start of summer camp, BYU has taken an unexpected hit to its depth at the running back position.
In your run-of-the-mill press release, the Cougars announced that junior Josh Quezada has decided to transfer out of the football program. No reason for the move was given by the school.
“Josh is a great young man, and I appreciate all the hard work he has put in to help make our program successful,” head coach Bronco Mendenhall said in a statement. “We will miss him, but I’m supportive of his future and his goals and wish the best for Josh and his family.”
The release goes on to state that Quezada, who has two years of eligibility remaining, has not determined where he plans to transfer. The Deseret News, though, notes that Quezada’s brother died in an automobile accident last November.
Quezada came to BYU as a member of its 2010 recruiting class after playing his high school football in La Habra, Calif.
The past two seasons, Quezada played in 26 games, rushing for 803 yards and six touchdowns while also adding 67 yards and one touchdown on 12 receptions. On BYU’s most recent depth chart, Quezada was listed as the No. 2 back behind starter Michael Alisa.
