So i guess mike McQuery was lying at the grand jury testimony to pursue indictment charges (The same charges which eventually led to Sandusky being found guilty with 45 counts of child molestation) that he told Joe Pa and he was full aware of it. Thats not a freeh report moron. That report only verifies your hero, Saint, Godlike Joe Pa was aware of child abuse on HIS campus in HIS locker room by HIS coach. There going to sue the living crap out of the Joe PA and his family and it will be well deserved for all the victims. You sickos keep defending the guy, thats the same culture that led to these kids being raped in the first place. In denial till the very end......Just like good old Joe Pa

HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO REMIND YOU MORONS, THE FREEH REPORT IS JUST A REPORT..ITS HIS OPINION, AND SOME OF WHICH IS NOT SUBSTANTIATED BY FACTS. Everyone assumes from an email some elaborate cover up took place..despite a lack of follow up evidence to sustain the allegation. Further, look at Freeh himself, and his actions as head of the FBI..not exactly a model investigator for a cover up......Just because the word judge is put in front of his name, also doesnt make his assertions fact. Be upset, be outraged, i wouldnt expect anything less. However, a lot of you are going off this report, and making hasty judgments...rather than waiting for valid, substantiated facts....i cant begin to stress to you the importance of waiting for all the facts to come out...one might even consider thinking about the Duke lacross case, and the large assumptions made against them..only to find out later they were false. Obviously thats not the case with Sandusky, but to villainize a man because one man says so, via a report that is incomplete and makes assumptions where facts arent present is idiotic and not the American way...

The only hearts crushed over the sanctions belong to those unwilling to admit that Paterno was actively complicit in the cover up and ongoing rape of children; and when it was uncovered he proceeded to lie to a grand jury. This is not conjecture, it is proven fact via emails and interviews. Paterno and other Admins believed their football program was worth more than the numerous young victims. This is a man who cloaked himself in smiles and self deprecation, and yet made the conscious choice to protect the football program and his own power and legacy.
The attempt to mischaracterize both the Freeh Report and Mr Freeh himself is a pathetic attempt to deny or disguise the truth. The Report was solid based on 400 interviews and 3 million emails. Neither Ruby Ridge or Waco happened on his watch, he was responsible for investigating it after the fact, amidst much political finger pointing.
The NCAA did it's level best to not punish former or future players. Players records will stand-it is only the Official wins that are voided.
If you want to blame someone-Joe Paterno and the Administration are responsible for the culture that permitted this to occur. It is not possible to kill the culture without some collateral damage-but that is ALL on Joe and his decision to close his eyes for personal gain and false hero worship.

You can blame a dead man all you want to, but the guilty person here is the 29 year old assistant coach that is on paid administrative leave, who claims he saw something in the show but was gutless to report it to the police.

--------------------------

I agree he should have gone to the police - but he DID go to his superiors (and stopped Sandusky immediately).

But when the Athletic Director attempted to go to the Police HIS boss told him not to do so.

HIS BOSS of course was Joe Paterno.

Penn State fans may want to try to delude themselves that Paterno was not the head of the Penn State mafia family, but everyone else knows the truth.

Paterno didn't want an Athletic Director at all - and only accepted it when he could hand select the AD. The AD did nothing without Paterno's approval - and refrained from contacting the police at Paterno's behest.

Read the Freeh Report and stop deluding yourselves Penn State fans!

If not for Paterno's actions, the assistant coach's report to the AD would have resulted in police involvement.

Paterno put his Legacy ahead of the welfare of children. Now THAT'S his Legacy.

andyoursistertoo: you need to talk to me about victims pal, i was one myself.

As for the rest of you, again the Freeh report is just a report..a mans opinion..a man who covered up numerous things while in charge himself. Look at Waco, Ruby Ridge, and something thats personal to me..TWA 800. Im not saying Penn st is innocent, not in the slightest. Im saying, why are so many taking this report as fact when the person who did the report has little credibility..oh, so they put "judge" in front of his name and that makes it absolute?! HA. Please. How about we await what comes out during the trial, where the info will have to undergo scrutiny as to its credibility as fact, rather than just taking someones word on it. PS they didnt even interview McQueary, and ignore certain facts...like the 98 case not being prosecuted. What is a football coach supposed to do when charges are alleged but not proven..should he have just jumped to conclusion? If you think that, check out the story of Courtney Bisbee online...my concern is not for the paterno family, its for the absolute truth..and the Freeh report is far from it.

I have no problem with the Paterno family wanting to present their own facts.

But it sounds like they haven't even read the Freeh report - nor did the family have access to the thousands of emails that Paterno sent confirming he knew of the allegations and quashed law enforcement involvement.

I find it difficult to believe that they can do a more thorough job than the former FBI Director.

It's sad - but because Paterno put his own legacy ahead of that of children, THAT is now his legacy.

Paterno made a choice to make a mockery of his own adage "Winning with Honor" when he turned a blind eye to the sexual abuse of children, and thus sealed his legacy.

You go explain that half ass excuses to the victims. Explain to them that Joe paterno was a victim and even though he knew what was going on and did absolutely nothing to stop them. Look each victim in the eye and tell them it was a conspiracy against Joe pa. You don't think those people would be angry if they knew that he turned a blind eye because winning , his legacy, and football meant more than there innocence. Look them in the eye when they tell you they were bleeding from behind because Joe pa did the right thing keeping it in house. Look them in the eye and tell them when they were in the showers being brutally raped. You need to realize the real victims are the kids and not Joe Pa

Joe Paterno and Penn State Football > Children getting raped and sodomized.

That is why people are angry and have every right to be angry at a guy who allowed a child molester to freely roam that campus doing whatever he wanted. Parents trusted in second mile which was Joe Paterno and Penn State brand to help the children out, Instead they allowed a pedophile to roam around campus with unlimited access, raping those kids. And all he freaking cared about was his legacy and his friendship to Jerry Sandusky, and not kids who were victimized by his ignorance. He is getting exactly what he deserves, his legacy means ABSOLUTELY nothing compared to the kids that were assaulted by HIS COACH AND FRIEND. This is completely absurd, regardless of your feelings toward Paterno. He coached the games, the rules of the game were followed, he won them. It happened.

But personally speaking, always handy to have a dead guy as the scapegoat."

He condoned the actions of a PEDOPHILE hardly a scapegoat...

Here is my take. When McQueery was in his office telling Paterno what he saw he diid not call the State Police or Protective Child Services and tell them they needed to come to his office immediately. All professional edcuators know that even a suspicion of child abuse MUST be reported. But Paterno chose to be "humane" to Sandusky as did other administrators. The E-mails used in the Freeh report were very damning of a cover-up. (and yes I read all of the report and all of the emails)

As painful as this is for the family...This is no longer sympathy for any of the administrative staff who did not call the officials that would have investigated immediately. They let it slide and gave Sandusky another several years to sexually molest little boys who are now adults and will have to live withthis for the rest of their lives,

I am proud of the NCAA for coming down hard. The NCAA did what the school should have done years ago.

We will never know why JoPa, Spanier, Curly or any other administrators chose to do the "humane" thing for Sandusky and totally lost their moral compasses that little boys were being raped by a slithering, nasty, old pedophile. My thoughts are with the victims and institutional punishment for covering it all up for so long.

Seriously, is this a real press release or a comedic piece from SNL?
Lets analyze: "The sanctions announced by the NCAA today defame the legacy and contributions of a great coach and educator without any input from our family or those who knew him best."

Did the family know that Joe had the capacity to be so devious and corrupt? Apparently not. What input could the Paterno family provide. Strike 1.

"That the President, the Athletic Director and the Board of Trustees accepted this unprecedented action by the NCAA without requiring a full due process hearing before the Committee on Infractions is an abdication of their responsibilities and a breach of their fiduciary duties to the University and the 500,000 alumni."

This is more commonly called "we are trying to end this as quickly as possible. You, the Paterno family are no longer relevant.

"Joe Paterno was never interviewed by the University or the Freeh Group. His counsel has not been able to interview key witnesses as they are represented by counsel related to ongoing litigation. We have had no access to the records reviewed by the Freeh group. The NCAA never contacted our family or our legal counsel. "

This might be the funniest thing ever written. If Joe were alive, he would say:
"Where's me Jello. Who is this Sanduskey fellow"?

The board abdicated their fiduciary responsibility by accepting this decision?

It took both a tremendous amount of nerve and delusion for the Paterno Family to make that statement. The PSU Board of Trustees abidicated their responsibility 14 years ago as did their father.

I accept, understand and genuinely feel sorry that the Paterno family is suffering--and they are suffering--through the man they loved being torn down because he was an egomaniac. What I can't understand nor sympathize with is that the family continues to release idiotic statements, statements said without a hint of irony yet are so ironic that they could be used as an example of irony. The Paterno Family may want to consider either hiring, if they have not, or dismissing, if they have hired, a public relations representative to review and revise any statement which they wish to release.

Personally, I don't think the penalties are severe enough. I would have shut your football team down for 14 years, which, coincidentally is the exact amount of time that St. Joe choose to protect his pedophile ass raping friend.
