In the past 11 months, Art Briles’ Baylor program has added two transfers from FBS schools -- running back Lache Seastrunk (Oregon) and wide receiver Daryl Stonum (Michigan).
Monday, the Bears reportedly added yet another one.
According to the Fort Collins Coloradoan, former Colorado State linebacker Mike “Brother of Brian” Orakpo has decided to transfer to the Bears. The player confirmed the move to the paper.
“Baylor is a nice, academic university and a good positive is that it’s in Texas and about 2 1/2 hours away from my home,” said the Houston native. “I had the opportunity to grow up in the Big 12 and learn all about it and it’s really an honor to be able to play at Baylor University.”
The university has yet to confirm the addition of Orakpo, who will be forced to sit out the 2012 season to satisfy NCAA transfer rules regardless.
In April of this year, Orakpo, along with two now-former Colorado State teammates, were involved in what was described as the “savage beating” of fellow CSU students. The trio was suspended by the program, ultimately charged with one count each of disorderly conduct, and eventually dismissed from the team.
In 2011, he finished third on the Rams in tackles.
Orakpo, ironically enough, is the second of the three players to join the Bears after legal issues earned him a boot out the door of his previous program.
In mid-January, Stonum was dismissed from the Wolverines, nearly two weeks after he was sentenced to 10 days in jail on a probation violation. Stonum’s probation stemmed from a DUI arrest back in May of last year. As part of his sentence, he was placed on two year’s probation and had his driver’s license stripped for at least a year. He was pulled over by Ann Arbor police for a traffic violation in early January, which triggered a violation of his probation and the jail sentence.
