MWC to Idaho, New Mexico State: ‘Go on to Plan B’

New MWC Logo

The conference future for Idaho and New Mexico State is now looking more grim than ever. Barring a miracle, both could very likely be headed for FCS status rather soon.

The Vandals and Aggies have watched its home, the WAC, get raided time and time again over the past couple of years. In recent months, the chances of their own adoption got slimmer by the day.

I think it’s safe to say those chances are now hovering somewhere between zero and never.

Speaking during Mountain West media days, commissioner Craig Thompson ended any discussion about his league picking up the two remaining members from the decimated WAC.

Harsh, bro.

What “Plan B” means isn’t clear, but both programs could either go Independent in football or drop down a level.

The Mountain West has already poached Boise State, Fresno State, Hawaii and Nevada from the WAC. San Jose State and Utah State will join the MWC in 2013.

The biggest slap in the face was the fact that Thompson left the door open a crack for UTEP, UTSA and Texas State. I guess maybe Thompson should be respected for being honest with UI and NMSU, even if it was cold, hard, brutal honesty.

So, Now the MWC and Sunbelt have both said no to these two schools. I hope they make the correct decision to drop down to FCS. Neither can really make any kind of compelling case that staying in FBS as an independent is a better decision.

Idaho in particular can fall back into a pretty dang good situation by going back to the Big Sky and re-igniting thier regional rivalries with the 2 Montana schools, Eastern Washington, etc.

I’m not quite as qualified to discuss NMSU, so I’ll leave that to future posters.

Perhaps the Big East should take them. Both are better than Temple and Memphis.

The WAC, MWC and Big East are all worthless conferences that no one cares about or takes seriously when it comes to college football.

    Repeat after me:

    It’s all about the $$$$$$$$$$$

Then why do you continue to, not only read, but post comments on every article related to those conferences? And worse, each one of your comments is just a scrambling of the exact same sentence.

Were you born in 1955? So, you were raised in an era where you were actually taught to hide underneath your desk during a nuclear war. Maybe that has something to do with it.

You and others keep saying that nobody cares about second tier conferences. I suspect that the fans of the teams in the conference do care. Evenly matched teams can make for an exciting game regardless of the level of play. I have watched rec league games featuring 10 year players that were exciting and worth watching.

The above posting should have said 10 year old players. I would hope nobody would spend 10 years in a rec league.

That was really witty comment. Did you read it somewhere and thought it was funny? I would expect a BSU fan to be defensive of any and all the many weak conferences you guys have been involved with over the past several years. Hopefully one day you will be in a major conference and play a decent schedule instead of your typical one good team a year schedule.

timh is a loser of the lowest kind. Still lives in his mommy’s basement, sleeping in the twin bed with the Aquaman sheets with old piss stains.
He is just bitter because once his mom goes to sleep, her boyfriend Jerry sneaks down the stairs and has his way with timmy’s bunghole.

Idaho and NMSU both deserve better. Both are excellent institutions as well as competitive athletics. Has to be room for them some where.

If the Big Ten boots us out, we can form a new conference along with these guys!

I agree with femlefty1, both schools should use this time wisely and really consider dropping down a level. Both programs are fighting a lossing cause and will never be competive in any conference.

I have a lot of respect for Rob Akey as the Head coach, as we played college ball together. The fact is, Idaho is not a good football program and can’t recruit in the west coast or the rocky region.

When IU was in the Big Sky, they where as strong as any team there. Save yourself the grief of being the doormate and some valuable money and drop down.

I think both should go independent and wait a couple of years to see if some western FCS teams move up. They can make more money being the Washington Generals to random BCS teams than they could playing Weber State.

Perhaps your right Bo Darville. I guess if the schools top priority is pimping out it’s football program to the highest bide, then by all means stay D1 and get your your hats handed to you on a weekly bases. I just thought there was more to it then that.
