The evidence shows Georgia didn’t have sex with anyone. The evidence in State College shows a pedophile ran amok for more than a decade while university officials left him to his own devices. It’s not about Steeler homerism or PSU homerism. It is what it is.

Sure, some of these players might get opportunities to win important games at other schools, but then they won’t be receiving a PSU education. A PSU education that is in the top 100 for schools in the world, at a school where football players, regardless of race, have thrived in terms of academics.

And for those saying this hurts players that might have a shot in the NFL if they go to another school…do you really think this would make a difference to a scout? Scouts will still go to PSU games. If anything, if a player is able to make it through these muddy waters, it shows tremendous amounts of character to be able to persevere through all of this adversity. And lets face it, bowl games or not, the national spotlight will be thrust on PSU football games for the next couple of years.

Football isn’t and shouldn’t be everything to young adults at a school, even though it was for a few grown men. The education that they receive, as well as the bonds and friendships they have made, are clearly important to these guys. I’ll admit that I’m a PSU fan and alum, but I wasn’t a fan of the team when I applied to the school years ago. If anything, I applied to PSU grudgingly, due to not liking their team/college football. It was everything else about the university that got me to take pride in its sports teams.

Larry Johnson is not a PSU lifer, and only had a 3 year overlap while Sandusky was there.

It scares me that people like you who invent these realities in your head are allowed to make decisions regarding the future of our country.

Last time I checked they still play the same schools, and their schedule wont change. If anything those who decide to stay will prove that they will use the adversity to build character. Those who run away to another program wont be thought a coward, but more will certainly be thought of those that stay and decide to play. No matter if it’s a freshman commitment or a senior playing out their last year, the ones who decide to stay will have a legacy at Penn State like no other. Who wouldn’t want to be on the squad that gave the NCAA a big eff you and went out there and played their @sses off week in and week out.
The fans and students aren’t going to dump on the football team, and Its nice seeing that core of guys not dumping on the fans and the school.

As for McGloin………he can play the hero/martyr card but unless he transfers to a Div II school he isn’t going anywhere else with any kind of chance at starting.

about of 4 hour drive, depending on traffic and what part of philly you are coming from. If you leave center city around rush hour it will take more time. i do not see a 4 hour trip to see a game as that far as there are only so many home games per year. also, as penn state is in virtually the middle of nowhere with thousands of students who eventually need to work, you will find large concentrations of psu alums in cities such as Pitts, Scranton, Wilkes Barre, Harrisburg (less as muni bankruptcy) and one of the largest cities in PA, Philadelphia. as there are many satellite campuses you that feed psu you will find alum concentrations in these areas as well.

lastly and most importantly, as a land grant instution/state university you will find large concentrations of psu alumni in any PA city just as you would find large concentrations of Texas alumni from 8-12 hour drives away as there is a reduced tuition to attend.

so I guess I have to ask you, are you serious? do you know the definition of overall proximity? do you understand how the state university system works? have you ever left philadelphia? do you realize some people have to commute 2-3 hours just to get to work?

i do give you partial credit in that – happy valley is a greater distance from philadelphia than pats is from genos.

You’re right on the statement–and you wouldn’t expect kids to think of Marshall before issuing their statement (although it was probably vetted by the university). But whatever adversity any team endures, I always think of Marshall. It could be worse.

I do agree with you re: Marshall. Having said that, these are 19-22 year-old kids, and I think they handled this statement extremely well, all things considered.

As for the players’ statement, it was admirable. However, I take issue that “This team has taken on more adversity than any team has faced in history.” Perhaps someone should remind them about Marshall.

Roethlisberger was never arrested and police in both jurisdictions said there was no evidence any crime had occurred. That’s because the woman in Nevada texted friends she couldn’t wait to see him again. And the woman in Georgia’s medical exam showed she hadn’t had sex with anyone that evening. Roethlisberger may be an idiot, but he’s not a rapist–and he’s one of a dozen players hit with false claims in money grabs. Not exactly the same as multiple counts of child rape and more than a decade of institutional cover-up.

And even if the accusations against Roethlisberger were true, one bad deed doesn’t cancel out another.

The NFL first of all doesn’t care about bowl games, and second of all the NFL goes where the talent is. Look at the draft board, Montana had 2 guys taken this year, and Utah State had 3 guys drafted fer cryin out loud!

I might question whether it’s the best decision for a player to stay at Penn State, especially one with NFL-level talent. I might also say that it won’t surprise me if some of the players who say they’re staying now, change their minds as the full enormity of the penalties levied against Penn State sink in.

Still…loyalty is a quality in very short supply these days, and those players showing loyalty to the Nits right now shouldn’t be criticized. It is, after all, their decision to make.

The quality of the coaching staff and the quality of the competition they are playing will be the same.

I think this years team especially will surprise people. But I think in coming years it will be even more surprising to people how competitive they will be.
