Big Ben not without faults?

Right, that's exactly what I said. That's how any rational person would interpret my comments that he's an idiot, an egomaniac, and a jackass who treats people like dirt. Yes, all thinking people like you would translate that to mean I'm saying he's without faults.

Baby, I don't care what the court of public opinion has decided on Roethlisberger or Penn State. The evidence shows that the jackass idiot had a one-niter with a woman who texted her buddies she couldn't wait to do it again, then a year later sued him for $3 million for rape. The evidence shows Georgia didn't have sex with anyone. The evidence in State College shows a pedophile ran amok for more than a decade while university officials left him to his own devices. It's not about Steeler homerism or PSU homerism. It is what it is.

And if it makes you happy, I've been raped. And I wasn't wearing a pin advertising myself as "down to f*ck" at the time. That's why I take the subject seriously and do my fact-checking. And it's why I wouldn't rationalize for a rapist no matter where he played.

The statement by the players staying shows what PSU is really about for all the thousands of people that have connections to a school, and will hopefully help to show that a couple of corrupt people can't bring down a whole lot of good all by themselves.

Sure, some of these players might get opportunities to win important games at other schools, but then they won't be receiving a PSU education. A PSU education that is in the top 100 for schools in the world, at a school where football players, regardless of race, have thrived in terms of academics.

And for those saying this hurts players that might have a shot in the NFL if they go to another school...do you really think this would make a difference to a scout? Scouts will still go to PSU games. If anything, if a player is able to make it through these muddy waters, it shows tremendous amounts of character to be able to persevere through all of this adversity. And lets face it, bowl games or not, the national spotlight will be thrust on PSU football games for the next couple of years.

Football isn't and shouldn't be everything to young adults at a school, even though it was for a few grown men. The education that they receive, as well as the bonds and friendships they have made, are clearly important to these guys. I'll admit that I'm a PSU fan and alum, but I wasn't a fan of the team when I applied to the school years ago. If anything, I applied to PSU grudgingly, due to not liking their team/college football. It was everything else about the university that got me to take pride in its sports teams.

Attention Penn State football players, "Welcome to The Titanic". You are nuts if you don't get out of there as soon as possible. Notice how Zordich and Mauti have deep family ties to Penn State? I get it. If you think the situation is going to get better because 108,000 worshippers gather at Beaver Stadium on fall Saturdays you have lost your minds. Tim Curly still needs to have a trial. Gary Shultz needs to have a trial. Graham Spanier may be charged and he'll need a trial. They are LYING to you if they tell you they are "Moving On" because all this horrible negtive media coverage is going to be in the news for the next several years. They still have an open Grand Jury investigation going on now. What other shoes are going to drop? Unless I had deep ties to the school, I would be outta there. It's a business. It's a business that was so valuable and profitable that the top leaders of not only the football team, but the school allowed children to continually be molested on it's campus to keep that investment rolling along. THOSE ARE FACTS. That not a school I want anything to do with even if they are all gone. Why should you pay for thier sins?

At the end of the day people play sports to leave legacies. Student athletes at smaller schools have to wait to play in a bowl game to get the national media attention players at Penn State get week in and week out. The fact they wont be able to be in a bowl game for 4 years, and wont be in the Big 10 Championship for 4 years is a big blow to the school, but lets be real, it doesn't stop the players from getting their shot at playing in the NFL.

Last time I checked they still play the same schools, and their schedule wont change. If anything those who decide to stay will prove that they will use the adversity to build character. Those who run away to another program wont be thought a coward, but more will certainly be thought of those that stay and decide to play. No matter if it's a freshman commitment or a senior playing out their last year, the ones who decide to stay will have a legacy at Penn State like no other. Who wouldn't want to be on the squad that gave the NCAA a big eff you and went out there and played their @sses off week in and week out.
The fans and students aren't going to dump on the football team, and Its nice seeing that core of guys not dumping on the fans and the school.

Well where are they gonna go if they're upper classmen? At this point they'd be stupid to walk away from a starting position and go to another program with no guarantee of playing time. Anybody who has ever played football knows that there is very much a pecking order that is defined over time, coaches play favorites, and there are politics.

As for McGloin.........he can play the hero/martyr card but unless he transfers to a Div II school he isn't going anywhere else with any kind of chance at starting.

700levelvet says:

Given penn states “overall proximity to philadelphia”……Are you serious?…….Do you own a GPS, or better yet are you old enough to drive? proximity?…..seriously? Have you asctually looked up the definiton of the word?

about of 4 hour drive, depending on traffic and what part of philly you are coming from. If you leave center city around rush hour it will take more time. i do not see a 4 hour trip to see a game as that far as there are only so many home games per year. also, as penn state is in virtually the middle of nowhere with thousands of students who eventually need to work, you will find large concentrations of psu alums in cities such as Pitts, Scranton, Wilkes Barre, Harrisburg (less as muni bankruptcy) and one of the largest cities in PA, Philadelphia. as there are many satellite campuses you that feed psu you will find alum concentrations in these areas as well.

lastly and most importantly, as a land grant instution/state university you will find large concentrations of psu alumni in any PA city just as you would find large concentrations of Texas alumni from 8-12 hour drives away as there is a reduced tuition to attend.

so I guess I have to ask you, are you serious? do you know the definition of overall proximity? do you understand how the state university system works? have you ever left philadelphia? do you realize some people have to commute 2-3 hours just to get to work?

i do give you partial credit in that - happy valley is a greater distance from philadelphia than pats is from genos.

i do give you partial credit in that – happy valley is a greater distance from philadelphia than pats is from genos.

Love my Steelers, but think Ben's a jackass who treats people like dirt--and I'm cynical about how much he's changed. But I've studied the cases thoroughly and know someone who worked the Georgia case. The authorities there are confident in the outcome. Rapist, no.

You played with him at Miami? Was he an egomaniac then, too? I'm thrilled with the Haley hire because I'm hoping he can rein him in. Arians was such a lapdog. He's super talented but his ego is a huge liability.

You're right on the statement--and you wouldn't expect kids to think of Marshall before issuing their statement (although it was probably vetted by the university). But whatever adversity any team endures, I always think of Marshall. It could be worse.

@Deb - Disagree, grew up in Pgh, and know people who met Ben around town, and played with with him @ Miami OH. They said he was a scuzz through and through. Sandusky and the cover up artists are worse people, by far, but Ben is not without his faults.

I'm not one of the boys, but hope I answered your question. Now maybe you kids can stay on topic.

As for the players' statement, it was admirable. However, I take issue that "This team has taken on more adversity than any team has faced in history." Perhaps someone should remind them about Marshall.

Roethlisberger was never arrested and police in both jurisdictions said there was no evidence any crime had occurred. That's because the woman in Nevada texted friends she couldn't wait to see him again. And the woman in Georgia's medical exam showed she hadn't had sex with anyone that evening. Roethlisberger may be an idiot, but he's not a rapist--and he's one of a dozen players hit with false claims in money grabs. Not exactly the same as multiple counts of child rape and more than a decade of institutional cover-up.

And even if the accusations against Roethlisberger were true, one bad deed doesn't cancel out another.

To the morons that are operating under the delusion that staying and playing for Penn State is the equivalent of sacrificing any future NFL prospects, ARE YOU INSANE?

The NFL first of all doesn't care about bowl games, and second of all the NFL goes where the talent is. Look at the draft board, Montana had 2 guys taken this year, and Utah State had 3 guys drafted fer cryin out loud!

Correct me if I'm wrong but the NFL hasn't boycotted Penn State, and they aren't likely too either. Now give me a thumbs down and call me a pedophile enabler. Idiots!

Of course players are going to be leaving PSU for a chance to play in the postseason... but I also agree that NFL Scouts will continue to look at these players for their respective teams. Not only do they look for size, speed and skills, but NFL Teams also look for Integrity in the players they will draft and for the one's that do stay are showing a lot of Integrity to O'Brien, the school and their committment.

I'd never criticize any player, anywhere, for showing loyalty. I know, as a Longhorn fan, that I value that quality in UT players.

I might question whether it's the best decision for a player to stay at Penn State, especially one with NFL-level talent. I might also say that it won't surprise me if some of the players who say they're staying now, change their minds as the full enormity of the penalties levied against Penn State sink in.

Still...loyalty is a quality in very short supply these days, and those players showing loyalty to the Nits right now shouldn't be criticized. It is, after all, their decision to make.

@steeler1nation, I see you are at it again. It's ok for your teams QB to rape women, but I see you draw the line at kids. How commendable of you.

Secondly, for those comments about the NFL - who wouldn't want to play for a coach that just helped coach the Patriots to a super bowl appearance and coached one the winningest QB's ever in NFL history; Tom Brady - even though he went to Michigan ;-)

The quality of the coaching staff and the quality of the competition they are playing will be the same.

I think this years team especially will surprise people. But I think in coming years it will be even more surprising to people how competitive they will be.
