Auburn DB ‘not allowed to return to team’

A player who could’ve provided depth -- at least -- in Auburn’s secondary this season won’t be available when the Tigers break camp in a handful of days.

Multiple media outlets are reporting that cornerback Jonathan Rose and Auburn have decided to go in different directions. Or, as al.com put it...

Coach Gene Chizik informed Rose’s high school coach, Keith Etheredge of Leeds, that Rose would not be allowed to return to the team Tuesday. Chizik had sent Rose home for the summer because of “personal reasons.”

Why Chizik would not permit Rose to return to the team is unknown, although the corner’s former coach said it was unrelated to either legalities or academics.

“It has nothing to do with grades or anything that deals with the police or anything like that,” Etheredge told the paper. “It’s just that he doesn’t need to be down there anymore. It has nothing to do with the coaching staff or Auburn or anything like that. They’ve been great to Jonathan.”

Etheredge also was quoted as saying something, well, odd, regarding something or the other...

“My gosh, if Jonathan Rose can’t make it in Division I college football, I don’t have a kid that I have ever coached that can make it. That’s the type of kid he is.

“He wants to fit in, but he’s got to learn he can’t fit in with every crowd.”

As a true freshman, Rose played in nine games last season. Rose was a four-star member of AU’s 2011 recruiting class, rated as the No. 7 safety in the country and the No. 5 player at any position in the state of Alabama according to Rivals.com.
