APSome coaches around the country have said they will not actively recruit Penn State players available to transfer due to NCAA sanctions levied against the program.
Others are a bit more forward. One of them was apparently Georgia coach Mark Richt. Dawgs247.com reported Friday that UGA notified Penn State compliance about speaking to 19 current Penn State players.
The list was obtained through an open records request. Those players were:
CB Adrian Amos (Soph.)
DE Deion Barnes (R-Fr.)
WR Justin Brown (Sr.)
CB DaQuan Davis (Fr.)
DB Jake Fagnano (Sr.)
LB Khairi Fortt (Jr.)
DL Jordan Hill (Sr.)
LB Gerald Hodges (Sr.)
DL DeQuan Jones (Jr.)
WR Eugene Lewis (Fr.)
OL Angelo Mangiro (R-Fr.)
DE Pete Massaro (Sr.)
LB Michael Mauti (Sr.)
DL Jamil Pollard (Fr.)
RB Silas Redd (Jr.)
OL Donovan Smith (R-Fr.)
C Matt Stankiewitch (Sr.)
WR Trevor Williams (Fr.)
RB Michael Zordich (Sr.)
However, in a statement released by UGA later Friday afternoon after the list was released, Richt said his program was not currently seeking any PSU players.
“Currently, Georgia is not pursuing any of Penn State’s football players. We wish Coach (Bill) O’Brien and the players the best,” the statement read.
It’s not surprising that Georgia was at least looking at several Penn State players. Offseason attrition and off-the-field issues have been unusually cruel to the Bulldogs and the NCAA’s loosened transfer policy for Penn State would have provided an easy fix.
That’s because the PSU players suck.
There’s one half decent one, Redd…the rest are pedestrian chumps yo.
aww poor marky, 0 for 19. maybe he should have recruited these less, ahem, “troublesome” players more heavily in the first place.
Little puppies are a joke…no one wants to play for that loser program…fact…
Steelernation just jealous Sandusky never showed you affection
Time to fold up the Penn St football program. They don’t deserve to have a team after what they allowed to happen. Kids were RAPED and the school did nothing to stop it. Some football program, cover up the RAPES so that the football program can look squeaky clean.
@steeler1nation, are you at it again? The players listed are all legit, and were mostly recruited by big time programs (look it up). Your utter lack of knowledge is on full display again. I’m going to continue to verbally knock the stupid out of you until you end up leaving the site altogether.
^^^^hhahahahahaaa
It was like the big 10 coach who stepped to the podium and said he would never step on campus o take a player. If they called him that would be different
Bill o brien passed him at the airport. Complete liar
Complete liar
You mean like St. Joe?
Purely a guess, but since I would be extremely surprised if UGA was actually going after all 19 players (doubt they have anywhere close to that much room), I could imagine Richt and his staff compiling a list of players that they would actually be interested in if they called, and then forwarding that list on to Penn State so as to not lose any time if a player called. That’s one way to reconcile the list with Richt’s statement – they were prepared in case they were approached, but aren’t technically actively pursing the players.

No. Richt and UGA were trying to recruit them, then when the press got wind of what they were up to and issued the Open Records request, they backpeddled and played dumb. UGA and Richt are not as holy as many think.
Ignore him danny.
Steelernation, mungman and showerswithsandusky are probably alts for the same moron.
Not all coaches are reluctant to take advantage of another teams’ demise. Vulture Kiffin will and USC being the biggest cheaters in College Football History will back him up on it. Vulture on!
@rsmeans- biggest cheaters of all time? Hahhaahhahaha laughable! I wish I could take you serious! This is just my opinion here but, I think so called fans like yourself Loved and relished the fact that USC was sanctioned! And now after a 2 year hiatus, USC is primed to be back on top as a leader of college football! Which only make haters like yourself look like a fool! Fight On! ✌Trojan Nation……….

@ematusko:
blah blah blah….all I heard was that you are a child rapist enabler supporter
Hey psunick: there is only one story here. Those kids were RAPED and Penn St looked the other way. Period.
I’m not sure why the other university coaches seem so squeamish about going after PSU players; after all, that’s what NCAA had in mind, isn’t it? NCAA plan was for PSU players to bail, wasnt it?
Seniors would probably be best, in that their scholarship won’t count against next year’s total, although given the time of year, there’s not much time to learn a new system.
So Georgia basically went 0-19…
PSU should post the request , to include the player and position , on-line from every school/coach.
Let them try to explain to their current players why they are trying to recruit a PSU player to take his starting spot
It was reported that six assistant coaches of the Fighting Illini were in State College to talk to players and actually had crossed paths Wednesday with Lions coach Bill O’Brien at the airport. But Beckman insisted that they never set foot on campus.
“We only talked to individuals that would be willing to meet with us,” Beckman said. “We did not go after them. They have the opportunity to come to us if they would like to come to us and speak to us. That’s how we handled the situation. So I did want to bring that out front.
“We were in State College, but we didn’t go on campus. We established two places outside of the campus and called individuals and told them if they wanted to come by, it was their opportunity to come by.”
The whole establishment is full of frauds
And two face coaches. One public and one that will do anything to win
Steelernation is still trying to explain why he roots for a rapist but hates Sandusky…
Would like to know how many dozen other schools sent the same notice out of an abundance of caution on the off chance they decided to talk to one of these kids, when there was actually little intention, much less planning, on even speaking with any of them.
But then that wouldn’t sound as scandalous, so no one would care, would they?
Every FBS coaching staff worth its salt has a contingency plan in place in the event they are contacted by a PSU player, so they know which players they would be interested in
(see wabbitslayer, above).
I love how trolls say Penn Stae sucks, their players suck and too slow, however their schools are the first one their trying to get them!
As for mungman69 : Dude you are SO CLUELESS! The people involved are no longer there! And if you read what one person n the Freech report said, THE NCAA SHOULD NOT HAVE USED THE REPORT TO MAKE ITS DETERMINATION! Please go crawl under your bridge and root for your team, Idaho State!
“blah blah blah….all I heard was that you are a child rapist enabler supporter”
Steeler1nation, I gotta hand it to you, you’re plenty stupid. I’m gonna take a stab and assume that your senior year (8th grade) didnt get you to the level of comprehension where you need to be as a functioning adult. I don’t blame you though. If my parents were first cousins, I’d probably be in the same boat as you.
