South Carolina QB unable to escape the Garcia curse

The spirit of Stephen Garcia never really left South Carolina; it lives on vicariously through reserve quarterback Tanner McEvoy.

Per the Mecklenburg County (N.C.) Sherriff’s department, McEvoy was arrested Sunday and charged with speeding and driving after consuming alcohol while younger than 21. The charge is a misdemeanor, but as a result, McEvoy has been suspended according to school policy.

Not that it’s a particularly big loss to the Gamecocks. McEvoy, a redshirt freshman, was the team’s fourth-string quarterback heading into fall camp. It does, however, narrow the backup QB race behind starter Connor ShawDylan Thompson and Andrew Clifford will be vying for that spot over the next month.

No worries. Stevie “5 chances” Spurrier will keep him on the field. Not gonna make a little minor thing like speeding and drinking underage while doing it, keep him from contending for a backup position QB slot.

Garcia set the standard…….no need to start worrying until you’ve been caught at least 3 times and suspended at least twice.

Young men (and women) can go fight on a foreign land and give their lives in the fight, then return home here and cannot legally drink adult beverages? Something is wrong with this.

Tanner was not popped for DUI, just drinking underage and speeding? I sped yesterday, following at a safe distance a cross country truck driver.

I think the charges will be dropped, reduced, or since he is a first time offender, he will be given some community service and record expunged.

    @tigereaux

You make a good point: he was not cited fo DUI and while that is important, speeding is speeding. I certainly understand your point about putting your life on the line, but not able to consume alcohol until age 21. I just don’t know if some 18 yr olds are mature enough to know when.

Gamecocker, I asure you most 21 year olds aren’t very good at drinking responsibly either.

Alot of QBs have bad habits at home and even bring them along to college with them.Example Pike from Auburn these kids can`t even begin to know how they are screwng up their futures.College is the roadmap to the NFL for these guys and most just don`t seem to care. But now with Garcia thats all together a different story.

Actually Garcia’s problems were breaking school and team rules/policy. NOT breaking the law.(except the keying incident his freshman year), Doesn’t make it right, just not the same.

I assume he was not tagged with DUI because the BAC was less than .08.

    brewcrewfan54:

Most of my friends have several decades on 21, and some of them do not know “aren’t very good at drinking responsibly either.”

raysfan1: Yep, that is what I heard also. Based upon the ill conceived law, they have him for being under 21 and drinking before driving. Though if he were 25, he would not have been arrested.

More arrest at S.Carolina? Lack of institutional control! What else is Spurrier hiding? Do an investigation and a 3 year bowl ban!

People like you who live in glass houses should not cast stones.

You are a PedofileState defender. Deal with the largest scandal in the history of higher education. Want to talk about lack of institutional control?

If you had any decency you would not post against Spurrier or the Gamecocks.
