The spirit of Stephen Garcia never really left South Carolina; it lives on vicariously through reserve quarterback Tanner McEvoy.
Per the Mecklenburg County (N.C.) Sherriff’s department, McEvoy was arrested Sunday and charged with speeding and driving after consuming alcohol while younger than 21. The charge is a misdemeanor, but as a result, McEvoy has been suspended according to school policy.
Not that it’s a particularly big loss to the Gamecocks. McEvoy, a redshirt freshman, was the team’s fourth-string quarterback heading into fall camp. It does, however, narrow the backup QB race behind starter Connor Shaw. Dylan Thompson and Andrew Clifford will be vying for that spot over the next month.
