This round its going to cost him. Alot.

Coach showed integrity. Good Job.

Personally, I hope he can recover and find an alternate route to pro football, in whatever league, in the future. He's got the skills, but needs better focus and drive.

He has done wrong and has been punished as the LSU athletic program saw fit. Say what you want but he was a major factor when he was on the field. (Punt Returns, Tackles, Interceptions and Turn-Overs etc....) Why do people keep bashing him? He's young and I'm sure that we all have done stupid things at one point in our lives or another, but seems that the ppl commenting in here feel that he should be Crucified for what ever it is that he did! We all know why that is but I won't go there in this post. Sure LSU has more talent on It's Roster but none of you can deny the fact that he is a good player!

Southernpatriots is preparing to depart, but his granddaughter emailed me and I learned some of the following to add to my sources:

Tyrann Matthieu is considering these following schools at this time:

1.Tyrann Mathieu visited McNeese State and is considering transferring to the Southland Conference school located in Lake Charles, La., about 200 miles from his hometown of New Orleans, McNeese State Coach Matt Viator confirmed. I would like that since it is in my backyard and I will get season tickets the moment I hear. I understand fans living near other schools he is considering are poised to purchase season tickets immediately upon confirmation.

2. New Orleans media outlets are reporting these following schools are being considered by Tyrann:

Bethune-Cookman ... McNeese State, Nicholls State, Southeastern Louisiana, and Grambling State ...

My hope is that Tyrann will not only keep the deep sorrow he has expressed for his poor decisions, but will seek and receive help for his problem and advice on his transfer. He knows that the coaching staff of LSU will do all they can to assist a smooth transfer.

Do you really? Wow ... yet another way you are a rare man on these blogs :)

I really don't root for anyone other than Bama and Pittsburgh with any regularity. I back the SEC in general. One thing I love about the NFL is that you always know where you stand relative to the playoffs, so I watch all the games I can and always root based on what's in Pittsburgh's best interest--and you'd be surprised at the dots I can connect when it comes to finding Pittsburgh's interests. Or I'll root for our ex-coaches and players as long as they left us on good terms. After that, I'll root for teams where favorite Bama players wound up.

I really thought Reid's INT in our regular-season meeting was the play of the game. At first I didn't think it was an interception, but then realized the NCAA was playing by NFL rules. Hate that rule, but it is what it is. The simple fact is that Reid showed an instinct for the ball--then he fought for it. He fought harder than our receiver. He made that play happen, and that was the game-winner. That kind of hustle really impresses me. He didn't get much notice with Claiborne and Mathieu on the roster. I hope he'll get a chance to really shine this year (just not against us ;) )

You're correct because Alabama was the SEC Champion that year, and your post refers specifically to beating the conference champ. However, as a Steelers fan, I can forgive LA Tech a lot :) But we also lost to Louisiana-Monroe--and LSU--in 2007, among others. It wasn't a good year for us with the Bayou teams.

Smited? Come on, we're not the Philistines--and not so mighty in 2007 :)

'Snapper. I grew up in Shreveport. My dad taught at Centenary and I made all the basketball games and was the ballboy for three years in the early '50s. I ranked!

I think it was the Gulf Coast Conference and they had Tech, Northeast, Northwest, Southeast, Southwest, McNeese, and at one time Springhill, so that is how I know the schools.

A late friend, his son and grandson went to SLI, USL, ULL, three different generations, three different college names, same school.

I was referring to the Nov. 17, 2007 where NE beat 'Bama in Tuscaloosa 21-14. I had completely forgotten about the Tech game. They rose up and smited the Mighty Tide, too.

Good for competition.

Terry was several years behind me.

cometkazie: I wanted to post earlier but work prevented it. Northwestern State has a main campus in Natchitoches, and other branches (nursing in Shreveport, and other campuses in Leesville/Fort Polk and Alexandria), but none in Monroe. Just in case some "Demons" are monitoring.

I think you were thinking of Louisiana Tech. "LA Tech is the only team from a non-AQ conference to defeat an SEC champion in the BCS era as the Bulldogs defeated Alabama in 1999." LA Tech is located in Ruston, LA and produced Terry Bradshaw among other NFL greats.

brutusbuckeye2011:

Thank you. I had never considered Rice Krispies but I see where that will help eliminate a problem I was having with the natural peanut butter packing too much. I have to complete this experiment and hopefully come up with a better recipe, then make a large batch and then make several batches of New Orleans All Natural Pecan Pralines and box it all up by tomorrow night, for my flight out to Cleveland Clinic first and then to Los Angeles to Cedars-Sinai.

It appears lung transplant operations will be scheduled for three of "our" children at both hospitals. When I was younger, I strongly considered enterring the specialty of surgery, but I don't think I would ever have wanted to do a double lung transplant on a child. It is the most demanding surgery I have ever witnessed, and though I been with dozens of children who had this operation over the years, it never gets any easier.

This situation with Tyrann has really affected the coaching staff at LSU. Les Miles broke down at a scheduled news conference, other coaches were seen avoiding cameras and reporters and wiping their red eyes.

Thanks again for your well wishes. I particularly need them through the TSA at airports, which always has been a challenge.

<em>Posted this on another thread last night:</em>

For those who keep saying that Mathieu, at 5’7″, is too short to play defensive back in the NFL, these come to mind …

Antoine Winfield, 5’9″, All-Pro & Pro Bowl corner for the Vikes.

Jim Leonhard, strong safety, 5’8″. An undrafted rookie w/Buffalo, he recorded 51 tackles in one season despite a calf injury and is the team’s sixth leading tackler; he just signed with Denver.

Bob Sanders, 5’8″, All-Pro & Pro Bowl strong safety, both an AFC and an NFL Defensive Player of the Year.
--------------------------------------------------

Although Mathieu and the guys I've mentioned are below-average height, it's not unusual for DBs to be shorter than receivers to give them a speed edge. What he lacks in vertical advantage, he can make up in speed, tenacity, ball instinct, and hard hitting. Is he an NFL long shot, especially now? Yes. Is it impossible ... no. And he could switch to another position. He's also an excellent return specialist. He could make a squad as a special-teamer, which is how Sproles--at 5'6"--made his name.

I know Lolo from track meets and practices. She is a very nice young lady who has had an excellent career.

I remember between her graduation and initial success with the 60m indoor championship, she was virtually penniless, yet when she won the outstanding Iowan athlete of the year, she donated the prize to flood victims up there. She will always be a classy lady in my book. Too bad she hit the hurdle in the last games. She accepts full responsibility for it.

I have come across a lot of really nice people officiating track and field and Lolo is one of them.

COMETKAZIE! You have made my day...I am still laughing.

Louisiana Normal School? (that is what they were called, before the name change to Northwestern State) the one LSU played with its third string and fourth string just to keep from running up the score? I think they are coached by a former assistant to Les Miles. The alma mater of Bobby Hebert, father of TBob Hebert of LSU.

"They beat ‘Bama in the fairly recent past." That line may get you in trouble with the many Bama fans who troll these threads to find anything they think is negative against Bama or Saban. It is funny and true and thank you for reminding me.

What do you think about all the controversy surrounding LoLo at the Olympics with other female runners criticizing her and some NY idiot writing that she is all fluff and no substance?

McNeese State is in my region of the state. As of 8 pm tonight, the word is that Cowboys head Coach Matt Viator has said Tyrann or any family member or representative has communicated with the school. Not yet, anyway.

McNeese is brought up for various reasons which appear to make it appropriate, but there are numerous other schools and successful FCS football programs to which he can transfer and play without sitting out a year.

I firmly believe if you were to read it, hell if any of you naysayers were to read it you might feel bettah bout yourselves and othas. It definitely be an eye opener. I won't apologize for my feelings because the Good Lord's the one that gave em to me and taught me what it is to care about my fellow man, something clearly a lot of others don't know how. Holy Mary Mother of Jesus I'm sorry that you and your brothers and sistahs had it so bad but did you ever stop to think somebody could've had it worse than you. I'd be willin to bet Tyrann came close. Every time I think of what he went thru I end up with tears welling up in my eyes and a broken heart. Nobody deserved what he was in. Folks have called him arrogant. That's not him, not at all. He's still that scared l'il boy who's doin the wrong things mixed with the right things to get attention to hide his fears. Those of us who are expressing compassion for Mathieu are not excusing his mistakes. Yes, he has to take responsibility for his actions--that's why Coach Miles has dismissed him from the team. But I lived nearly four years in a ghetto while writing about a military conflict in that region. Children from that kind of poverty, deprivation, and violence have so much more to overcome than children from an average middle-class home.

Yes, they have to abide by the same rules as everyone else. But they have to fight many more demons to do it. That's why some of us have deeper feeling for kids from these backgrounds who get so close to the brass ring only to fall back into old traps. He does need our prayers more than our condemnation.
