He will not be coming back ever. It’s stunning that the young man did not have enough self discipline to put that stuff down. Huge blow right before the start of the season. Last year, Jefferson, now this.

He would still have to sit out a year to move back to D 1 and I don’t see that happening in any world

It depends on what he thinks his draft potential would be. If he’s smart, he’ll go the FCS route then come back to division I level next year. If LSU won’t take him he should consider Sourh Carolina. With any luck Lattimore will have a good year this year and “the spotlight” will be on Carolina next year…which, if he puts the pipe down…he can get a piece of.

I posted the other day asking if Tyrann could return to LSU if he kept himself straight for a year at an FCS school. This article and comments here from those familiar with the LSU program indicate that’s virtually impossible. I’m very sorry to hear that. This is a tremendously talented young man who climbed up from extremely difficult life circumstances only to be tripped up by some of those demons.

No one is making excuses for him. But he’s hurt only himself; he hasn’t victimized anyone else. I can’t think of anything more petty than people here taking pleasure in Mathieu’s troubles just because they’re bitter about their school–Penn State–being punished for the willful actions of a bunch of well-paid, well-educated, and highly priviledged cowards.

I pray Mathieu can get himself together, become an FCS standout, and find his way into an NFL career.

to all those that keep saying, “look in the mirror, or before you point the finger, blah blah blah” lets not forget that he made a mistake and should have to face the consequences. any one of us that would have gotten caught would have to do the same. so enough with all the self-righteous BS. we get it, but it doesnt excuse his actions. i do hope he bounces back from this, and maybe it will be a lesson learned. lastly, if he didnt have the constant tweets, or the pompous behavior, maybe there wouldnt be so many negative remarks about him.

gatorsnapper, thank you for saying what you did. Tyrann did indeed have it rough growin up and I wouldn’t wish the way he did on anybody. And to say that brings tears to this one’s eyes everytime she thinks bout it. He’s still that scared l’il boy hidin behind that shell hes got built around him but he realizes the mistakes hes made. I’d like to think my bud’s gettin the help he needs because a lot of those hes run with aren’t. Rather than judgin him we all should be prayin for him, well maybe those of us who’re proud enuff to call ourselves Christians. Coach Miles and the rest of the Staff are workin together to see that he’s ok and that says a lot. They don’t have to it but they care about Tyrann. If you were to ever meet him you couldn’t help but to like him. He’s not arrogant as some have made him out to be nor is he a flash in the pan either. He’s not perfect and neither is the rest of the human race. So before you go and point a finger at him or anybody else take a look at how many you’ve got comin back at your way.

Wouldn’t the three failed drug tests be at least three strikes?

At least we aren’t saturated with Penn State news.

Ummm. He probably didn’t fail a test for LEGAL drugs so yes he pretty much is a criminal.

That said, I’m 100% behind him sitting a year and coming back. Paying the price and proving he learned from the experience will be the best thing for him and his draft status.

Well, if he can sit out a year, and stay clean from here on out, I’d be okay with him coming back. LSU should give him a long list of things to accomplish during that year though. It can’t simply be a one-item list that says “Don’t smoke dope.”

Probably several reasons he won’t be back, but the most telling is Miles’ Friday quote. BTW, “working on his maturity and character” is code for, “I do things my way, take it or leave it” (kind of too caught up in that whole ‘honey badger’ mentality thing if you ask me), and unfortunately for him, Miles called his bluff. Besides, McNeese State has had a number of NFLers (32 at last count); if he goes there, he has a pipeline to the next level.

It is well known that Miles and the coaching staff at LSU really like Tyrann. They all understand his very difficult upbringing. The decision by Coach Miles was one of the most difficult things he said he ever had to do as a coach at LSU. That being said, this all is worse than speculation. It has no substance to it.

Hopefully, Tyrann is working on his maturity, decision making, and his sobriety. Hopefully, he will not return to the environment and friends who provide the atmosphere where this behavior is acceptable. All that can be done as Tyrann plays football and receives an education somewhere.

I do not believe he will lay out a year and then try to return to LSU. I think that we will hear within a few more days or at the most week or so, the school to which Tyrann has transferred.
