APWell, this is certainly unexpected.
And occasionally shirtless, as the situation would have it.
In any case, Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin announced Wednesday evening that redshirt freshman Johnny Manziel will be the Aggies’ starting quarterback for the season opening game against Louisiana Tech over sophomore Jameill Showers.
“Johnny has performed the best at this stage and we will proceed until the season opener with him getting the first-team reps,” Sumlin said. “My policy is simple really; the best player plays. Competition is a great thing and we need more competition at all of our positions. All of our quarterbacks have competed well, and I expect them to continue to push Johnny.”
Showers was the long-assumed leader in the competition to replace Ryan Tannehill, but Manziel obviously surpassed Showers during fall camp.
Manziel was also arrested earlier this summer for fighting and initially hit (yes, that was intentional) with a disorderly conduct charge, a Class C misdemeanor.
Wow surprising last guy I thought would have won the starting job.. Only time will tell though
Yeah wow, thats OK, Tech is going to beat the crap out of them anyway. LOL
If Manziel is the last person you thought would win the starting job then you know nothing about Johnny “Football”. And the rest of the football world know about his athletic ability very soon! Rocket arm, low 4.5 speed.. WHEW it’s gonna be fun watching Johnny play..and the guy who says Tech is going to beat the crap out of A&M is smoking some good ganja.. Dream on son.
