APJust a couple of weeks before the start of the 2012 season, SMU has suffered a significant loss on the defensive side of the ball.
Head coach June Jones confirmed Wednesday that starting cornerback J.R. Richardson suffered a torn ACL and will miss the entire year. The sophomore was injured during practice this past Saturday.
Richardson played in 11 games last season, mainly on special teams. He averaged 21.3 yards on his 26 kick returns in 2011.
With Richardson out, junior Chris Parks will take over the starting job, Jones said.
