That is what OU replied to the AAD at LSU who tried to get reciprocal games with OU for the past years. When is the last time OU played the a team in the top 5 rankings for the first game of the season? LSU did last season (Oregon).

When did OU play the top team in the nation in regular season (LSU did numerous times, playing Alabama, Auburn, Florida, and Georgia during the regular season when they won the national championships, and every year, when they are ranked in the top 3, top 5, and top 10, etc.).

Don't get me wrong. I have respect for the legacy and history of OU football, as I do Notre Dame. But you are claiming playing the Irish this year and TCU in non-conference games is a big deal? The Irish haven't been anything in how many years? Understand...my father, my uncle, cousin, and other relatives are grads of N. Dame and were lifelong fans, but switched their allegiances in the past few years.

Notre Dame over the past decades has been most over ranked, under-performing team in football. Sometime, when I have more time, I will give you the words from the previous Irish AD in the 7os when LSU beat them badly at Baton Rouge.

@tigersgeaux...I agree with your points about the player issues that all schools are facing. On the scheduling, I take some issue with the tone of your comment that suggests that OU was afraid to play LSU. OU plays, and has played, as competitive a non conference schedule year in and year out as almost anyone. I notice who LSU and other SEC schools have played in non-conference over the past decade or so, and that list of opponents is nothing to write home about. This year, for example, OU was scheduled to play N Dame and TCU in non-conference games (before TCU joined the Big12).

gorilladunk:

That would be a good idea, but UT may have their own problems by that time to deal with as well. These things are happening in just about every program, especially the better ones, and can happen at any time. It is a sad reality that most programs deal with every year. I hope neither UT or the Sooners will have to dismiss their best player because of idiotic choices he makes, as we had to.

By the way, the Sooners finally came to table with acceptable dates (though in 2018 and 19) for reciprocal games with LSU. LSU had pursued that for about 5 years while the Sooners were saying they had enough hard matches with their fellow Big 12 teams, so they would not schedule another hard game with LSU. Finally, LSU asked them to rank their schedule with LSU's in the SEC and OOC and see if Oklahoma's schedule was the stronger. They found a way to schedule LSU the next year, but put it off into the distant future.

@deucez2...it's EVERYONE's m.o. Especially for transgressions that are relatively minor. None of the players suspended would have gone to jail for their transgressions. It's basically failing a drug test due to marijuana (which covers about 40% of all D-1 players) or not going to classes. At least he makes them sit for a few games. Maybe UT should schedule OU in early Sept.

This lower standard is also evident in the public school systems of America today, especially the inner city schools, which often have metal detectors, body scans, and where teachers are babysitters, rather than teaching.

This environment is from which the colleges recruit. Rather than society and individual cultures in greater society emphasize education, they emphasize athletics, which only a small percentage of those who play sports ever make a living from it. The remainder who never make a living at sports often fall back into the culture they came from and we see them on arrest reports. This is a sad cycle.

I agree - athletic ability has always been a ticket to admission; however, the circumstances of these kids' childhood environment are much different today than even 10 years ago.
