Arizona State names its starting QB too

Since it’s that time of the year, Arizona State has decided which quarterback will replace Brock Osweiler for the Sun Devils’ Week 1 game against Northern Arizona.

Todd Graham announced Monday that redshirt sophomore Taylor Kelly would get that distinction. Kelly, who threw just four passes last year (completing all of them for 31 yards), beat out redshirt freshman Michael Eubank and sophomore Mike Bercovici.

Eubank will play as well.” Graham said. “So we will wind up using two guys. That is not to say Bercovici wouldn’t play because he’s made it very difficult. There’s not much separation between them.”

Bercovici was the only other quarterback of the three to have attempted a pass last season, and appeared to have an edge in the competition this past spring. In fact, Kelly entered fall camp as the third-string QB, but came on strong in recent weeks.

The decision marks the fifth different Week 1 starting quarterback for ASU in as many years.
